Strategic Project Finance Controller (Europe/Asia)

Job summary

ICF is seeking a Project Finance Controller to join the Europe & Asia Business Management team in Madrid on a permanent basis. You will drive financial performance across projects, including revenue recognition, forecasting, and variance analysis, working with PMs and Directors in a multinational matrix environment.

Key duties include project setup, compliance, billing, WIP management, accruals and month-end close, and supporting governance with strong control processes.

Qualifications

• MBA, M.Com, CMA or equivalent finance qualification.
• 4-5 years of relevant experience in project finance, project controllership, or financial project administration within service or consultancy environments.
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles and financial standards (e.g., ASC606, IFRS, US GAAP).
• Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, modelling).
• Proficiency in MS PowerPoint; Power BI experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Project Financial Management & Analysis: Monitor, analyse and interpret project financial performance; conduct re-forecasts and cost-to-complete reviews; present monthly performance to Senior Leadership.
• Project Setup, Maintenance & Compliance: Review contracts and set up projects in ERP; maintain data through lifecycle; support contract documents.
• Revenue Recognition & Reporting: Ensure revenue is recognised correctly and prepare MIS packages with commentary.
• Billing, Cash Flow & WIP Management: Prepare client billing, monitor aged debts, support collections, reduce WIP and overdue balances.
• Accruals & Month-End Close: Calculate subcontractor/freelancer accruals; support reconciliations and monthly reports.
• Project Governance & PM Support: Lead financial reviews, identify risks, train PMs on processes and compliance.
• Controls, Audits & Process Improvement: Support audits and implement financial controls and continuous improvement.
• Other Responsibilities: Perform ad-hoc duties as needed.
