Job summary

K&K Talents is assisting a client in Barcelona to hire a hands-on Starburst Enterprise Platform Lead on a 6-month contract (extendable). You will own the operation, reliability and continuous improvement of the Starburst platform, with accountability for a small 2–3 engineer team.

Required: hands-on Starburst Enterprise, Trino or Presto; Kubernetes, Docker, AWS; Python and SQL; incident management and strong stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or related field.
• Hands-on experience with Starburst Enterprise, Trino or Presto in production data or analytics platforms.
• Experience as Platform Lead or Senior Platform Engineer with team ownership.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, Docker and YAML.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; incident management and release planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to a team of 2–3 engineers.
• Lead incident resolution, root-cause analysis, releases and upgrades.

Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Starburst Enterprise Platform Lead to own the technical operation, reliability and continuous improvement of Customer's Starburst platform. The role retains the full engineering scope of the Platform Engineer position while adding technical leadership, service ownership and accountability for a support team of 2–3 engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Own the operation, reliability and continuous improvement of the Starburst platform.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of 2–3 engineers.
• Lead incident resolution, root-cause analysis, releases, upgrades and infrastructure patching.
• Manage production operations, monitoring, configuration and platform troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with external vendors on technical escalations, defects and upgrade planning.
• Drive automation, operational efficiency, documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Communicate incidents, technical decisions, risks and service updates to stakeholders.

Required Skills:

• Hands-on experience with Starburst Enterprise, Trino or Presto in production data or analytics platforms.
• Experience as a Platform Lead, Technical Lead, Senior Platform Engineer or equivalent.
• Technical leadership experience with a small engineering or support team.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, Docker and YAML.
• Practical experience with AWS, RDS, GitHub Actions and CI/CD.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience in production operations, incident management, root-cause analysis, release management and platform upgrades.
• Strong vendor management, stakeholder communication and technical documentation skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Snowflake, Iceberg, dbt, Immuta, Apache Ranger or Collibra.
• Knowledge of data governance, data virtualisation, metadata and data lineage.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare or other regulated industries.
• Exposure to FinOps, disaster recovery, high availability and platform cost optimisation.
