About the Role

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our client, a fast-scaling technology company building products used by millions of users globally. This is a senior hands‑on engineering role for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, shaping architecture, and leading by example—not just following predefined blueprints. You’ll work across the stack with PHP, Node.js, and React, designing and delivering high-performance systems in a fast‑paced, product‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and evolution of large-scale web applications serving high user volumes
• Take ownership of complex technical problems, driving solutions from concept through implementation
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to define architecture, APIs, and system patterns
• Set standards for code quality, performance, and scalability across backend and frontend systems
• Mentor engineers, providing guidance on technical decisions and long-term architectural direction
• Work across the stack—designing backend services in PHP / Node.js and building intuitive, performant React frontends
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and user experience for large-scale, data‑driven applications
• Contribute to the company’s technical strategy, continuously improving tooling, processes, and infrastructure

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience with PHP and Node.js on the backend and React on the frontend
• Proven experience building or scaling systems with large active user bases (high‑traffic, high‑volume environments)
• Ability to think independently—defining problems, designing solutions, and influencing architectural direction
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, API design, and system optimization
• Hands‑on experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Familiarity with modern DevOps and CI / CD practices in cloud‑based environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross‑functional teams

Nice to Have

• Experience leading technical initiatives or acting as a key decision‑maker in engineering teams
• Knowledge of caching, scaling, and performance tuning for web‑scale applications
• Exposure to microservices architectures, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), or serverless technologies
• Familiarity with analytics, A / B testing, and data‑driven product iteration
