Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) Principal Engineer for the development and operation of next-generation reactors including SMR and microreactor concepts. The role offers hybrid work in Spain with opportunities to influence control room procedures and commissioning across the global fleet.

You will write procedures, validate simulator scenarios, and collaborate with global professionals to advance nuclear plant operations and new-build projects.

Formación

• Reactor Operator (RO) or Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) or qualified SRO instructor.
• 10+ years of experience.
• Fluent in Technical English.
• European Union Citizenship or resident with valid work permit.

Responsabilidades

• Write operating procedures defining how control room operators run plants in normal, abnormal and emergency conditions.
• Develop test procedures for commissioning of new plants (e.g., AP1000) to verify component and system functionality through preop to startup phases.
• Validate scenarios in control room simulators before training operators and implementing in plants worldwide.
• Collaborate with industry professionals to learn technical and professional aspects of operating as a nuclear operations expert.
• Support commissioning of new plants worldwide and contribute to operating fleet integration and next-generation SMR/microreactor projects.

The Nuclear Operations group at Westinghouse focuses on all operations topics, supporting worldwide utilities.

Our team of experts includes Senior Reactor Operators, Reactor Engineers, Procedure Writers and Test Engineers.

Many of our team members either joined our group as qualified reactor operators or earned an SRO certification with us.

Our experience as reactor operators is at the core of our efforts to define and improve how nuclear power plants are operated.

We are developing the operating procedures performed by reactor operators in reactor control rooms and the commissioning test procedures that are bringing new plants from construction, to critical, then to full power operation.

Nuclear Operations leads the delivery of modern nuclear instrumentation technologies, such as the Vanadium Fixed Incore Instrumentation System.

We offer an array of reactor engineering services, including startup physics testing, nuclear instrumentation diagnostics, fuel transfer and cask loading optimization, and much more.

About The Role

As a SRO Principal Engineer you will work on the new generation of reactors like the AP300 SMR and eVinci microreactor, the new fleet of AP1000® and the operating fleet from all over the world.

Building your skills based on actual operating plant experience in the field, combined with new plant development, will be a major accelerator for your career in the nuclear industry.

You will report to the Sr. Manager, Engineering and be located at Madrid or Vila-Seca, with a hybrid work schedule.

Main Responsibilities

You will acquire knowledge about writing operating procedures to define the way control room operators run plants in normal, abnormal and emergency conditions.You will develop test procedures supporting commissioning of new plants (like the AP1000) to demonstrate the functionality of component and systems from preop testing through the startup phases.You will then validate scenarios in control room simulators, before they are used to train reactor operators and implemented in plants worldwide.You will work with professionals in the industry who will teach you the technical and professional aspects of working as an operations expert in the nuclear industry.Your scope will include the operating fleet (integrating operating experience and new scenarios) and the next generation of nuclear plants (SMR and microreactors), giving you learning and development opportunities in both worlds.As an author of operating and test procedures, you may support the commissioning of new plants worldwide.
