Job summary

European Space Agency is seeking an Archive Scientist for ESA planetary missions to define and manage the scientific archive, maximize mission data use, and supervise data products. You will collaborate across mission scientists, archive leads, and the ESDC team to ensure high-quality science data delivery and outreach.

The role requires a PhD in a relevant domain and at least one year of related experience, with opportunities to engage in international projects and expose you to ESA missions

Qualifications

• Experience in science data management and archiving systems.
• Experience working with planetary science data in a research setting.
• Experience coordinating the scientific community and managing multiple interfaces at international level.
• Experience in science operations, preferably in the context of ESA missions.
• A PhD in a relevant domain is required for this post, together with one year of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Definition and specification of the scientific archive for supported ESA planetary missions.
• Ownership of use cases and drivers for the mission archives and prioritization for implementation.
• Chairing and coordinating a mission-level Data Archive Working Group (DAWG).
• Monitoring implementation, testing and performance of the archive; defining end user acceptance testing.
• Supervising and coordinating data products and higher-level data products with mission teams.
