TomTom is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Maps Data Services team in Madrid. You will help build services and infrastructure that enable TomTom teams and customers to access map data, with a focus on performance, cost, and reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• Strong professional software engineering experience, with Java as your main programming language.
• Experience designing, building and maintaining scalable backend services in production.
• Solid computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis.
• A practical approach to troubleshooting, performance and reliability in complex systems.
• Proficient inwritten and verbal communication in English.
• You already live in Madrid or in a nearby area and are willing to commute to our office 2 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve backend services and infrastructure for the Maps Data Services. You will work on designing and delivering new features that extend the platform’s capabilities.
• Develop reliable solutions that help internal teams find and use mapdata. These data are also used by customer-facing teams when they onboard external customers.
• Improve the performance, costefficiency, and throughput of services that process large volumes of data.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and solution design to implementation, testing,deployment and monitoring.
• Operate and continuously improve production systems.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Madrid, Lodz, Amsterdam andGhent, sharing ownership and knowledge across the team.

The role

At TomTom, we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Maps Data Services team. In this role, you will help build the services and infrastructure that enable TomTom teams and customers to access the data they need to build and update maps. You will join a team that works on a mature, complex platform where performance, cost, throughput and reliability matter at scale, and you will also help us ship new features.
