HappyScribe in Barcelona is looking for an experienced engineer to join the Engagement pod. You’ll own a product area from day one across Rails backend and React web, React Native mobile, and Electron desktop apps.

Work with a designer to decide what to build, prototype it, ship it with coding agents, and validate it with evidence.

You’ll grow the design system, contribute to architecture decisions, and help the team balance speed with rigor in a hybrid, English‑fluent environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Shipped cross‑platform apps (mobile or desktop).
• Proven AI‑first approach using coding agents.
• Experience building design systems or component libraries.
• Ability to ship with minimal specifications.
• Fluent English in a global team.

We’re HappyScribe, a profitable, 100% bootstrapped AI company based in Barcelona.

We built one of the web’s most accurate multilingual transcription platforms, trusted by hundreds of thousands of users each month. That product funds our freedom to create what’s next—no investors, no burn rate, just focus.

You’d be joining a team of ~17 people, close-knit and pragmatic. Some of us are scaling a mature, revenue-generating platform. Others are prototyping new products that push the limits of speech and agentic AI.

We move fast but think long-term. There’s room here to shape, ship, and own real products — not pitch decks.

About the role:

You’ll join the Engagement pod, which owns our web app, and our mobile and desktop recording apps. You’ll work in a small team with Matej, Eduard and a designer, and report to Ignasi, our CPTO.

What you’ll do

• Own Engagement features end to end, across our Rails backend and our React web, React Native mobile and Electron desktop apps

• Decide with your designer what to build, then prototype it, ship it with coding agents, and prove it works with evidence

• Grow our design system and component library together with the designer

• Make architecture calls across the stack, review other people’s work and raise the pod’s bar

What we’re looking for

• You’ve been full-stack in production. You’ve shipped both backend and frontend code that real users rely on

• You’re AI-first. You use coding agents every day, and they write all of your code

• You build things in your own time. Big or small, we want to see it

• You’ve shipped at least one cross-platform mobile or desktop app

• You’ve worked on a design system or component library

• You have product judgment. You can partner with a designer and prototype without waiting for mockups or a PM

• You’re comfortable with ambiguity and get moving without full specs

• You check quality with evidence, not by reviewing every line

• 5+ years of experience and fluent English

Nice to have, but you can learn it here: Ruby on Rails (solid experience in another server-side framework is fine), and whichever of mobile or desktop you haven’t done yet.
