Senior Mechanical Engineer
Project Context
This is a senior engineering role responsible for leading the integration and system-level design for an air treatment machine. The successful candidate will be the primary technical owner for the machine's fluid systems, air handling, and overall subsystem integration. They will work independently to manage these aspects from detailed design through to a fully assembled and validated prototype, ensuring compliance and manufacturability.
Primary Responsibilities
-
Fluid & Air Handling Systems
- Lead the design of all air and gas handling systems, including the air inlet and the high-temperature gas recirculation loop.
- Perform CFD and thermal analysis to optimize airflow, ensure uniform gas distribution and minimize thermal losses in the piping.
- Design all associated sheet metal cabinets and safety covers.
-
Subsystem Integration
- Manage the mechanical integration of all OEM components (pumps, chillers, etc.) for the after-treatment and recirculation process loops.
- Design the complete piping and tubing layout, along with all necessary brackets and mounting hardware, to connect these components within the machine frame.
-
Machine-Level Systems & Compliance
- Oversee the mechanical layout of the main electrical enclosure, ensuring proper component placement and thermal management.
- Lead the creation of the technical documentation.
-
Prototyping & Logistics
- Provide critical hands‑on engineering support during the prototype assembly.
- Design the complete packaging and shipping solution.
Required Skills & Experience
-
Technical Expertise
- Systems Integration: Proven ability to integrate multiple complex subsystems (mechanical, fluid, electrical) into a cohesive and functional machine.
- Piping & Routing Design: Strong experience designing layouts for pipes and tubes in confined spaces.
- CFD & Thermal Analysis: Hands‑on experience with simulation tools to analyze and optimize fluid flow and heat transfer, ideally using Solidworks Simulation.
- OEM Component Integration: Experience designing mounts and interfaces for commercial off‑the‑shelf components like pumps, motors, and heat exchangers.
- DFMA: Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, especially for sheet metal and assemblies.
-
Project Management & Leadership
- Technical Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage significant portions of a machine design project independently.
- Hands‑on Prototyping: Experience supporting the build of first‑of‑a‑kind machinery, with strong skills in root cause analysis.
-
Experience
- 8+ years in a senior mechanical product development role.
- A proven track record of successfully integrating and launching complex electro‑mechanical systems.
