Job summary

ICEYE Valencia hosts a Senior Operations Specialist (Flight Engineer) to safeguard stratospheric aircraft during flights. You monitor health, energy, and thermal balance, and provide timely recommendations to the Mission Planner and Autopilot Operator.

The role spans flight engineering and broader operations, including flight test campaigns, ground control station duties, data analysis, and ongoing development of procedures and tools for scalable operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in UAS or aircraft testing and operations.
• Solid understanding of aircraft systems, avionics, electrical power and propulsion.
• Experience monitoring live telemetry, interpreting system data and diagnosing anomalies under time pressure.
• Good understanding of electrical energy systems such as batteries, solar power and power budgets.
• Clear communication and ability to work as part of a flight crew, including during long-endurance operations.
• Programming or scripting for data analysis and tooling (Python; C/C++ a plus).
• Ability to drive large vehicles or convoys (B license).
• Good command of English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

• Monitor the health and status of the aircraft and its on-board systems in flight, detect anomalies, and assess impact on the mission.
• Manage the aircraft energy balance: battery SOC, solar power and power budget; ensure energy for night operations.
• Monitor and manage aircraft thermal condition to keep systems within limits.
• Advise Mission Planner and Autopilot Operator on health, power, and coordinate technical decisions.
• Plan, prepare and execute flight test campaigns, including site prep and launch/recovery.
• Take on other crew roles or ground station duties as needed.
• Analyze flight data, report results, and translate findings into improvements.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, checklists, and docs.
• Develop monitoring, analysis and planning tools for flight crew (telemetry dashboards, energy/thermal tools).
• Support aircraft integration, ground testing, simulation, and crew training/qualification.
• Support safety and risk assessments, and coordinate with authorities/partners.
