Placements24 is assisting a national leader in sustainable infrastructure to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer (Water & Sanitation) for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will lead design, planning, and implementation of water and wastewater projects across municipalities, ensuring high-quality, resilient solutions.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years post-graduate experience, Pr.Eng with ECSA, and proven ability to manage large municipal schemes remotely.

Qualifications

• Meets BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and conceptualization of water treatment plants, wastewater treatment works, and distribution/collection networks.
• Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation for water and sanitation projects.
• Manage project lifecycles, including scope definition, planning, execution, and closeout, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines.
• Conduct feasibility studies, option analyses, and impact assessments for new infrastructure development.
• Ensure all designs comply with national standards, SANS codes, and relevant environmental regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff working remotely.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, municipal authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders via digital platforms.
• Perform quality assurance and control checks on designs and construction activities.
• Stay updated on advancements in water and wastewater technology and sustainable engineering practices.
• Contribute to business development initiatives by assisting with proposals and client engagement.

About the Role

This role is crucial for leading the design, planning, and implementation of vital water and wastewater projects across various municipalities in South Africa , with particular emphasis on opportunities impacting areas like Queenstown, Eastern Cape . You will be responsible for complex system design, project management, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resilient, and environmentally sound water and sanitation solutions. Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. with ECSA is mandatory.

• Proven experience in managing large-scale municipal water and wastewater projects.
• Expertise in hydraulic modeling software for water and sewer networks.
• In-depth knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies.
• Strong understanding of project management principles and contract administration.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, suited for remote team management.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a remote work environment.
• Experience with GIS and other relevant software for infrastructure planning is advantageous.
