Job summary

Valsea Technology in Marbella, Spain, seeks a Staff/Principal-level engineer to own AI strategy on a high-scale platform. You will lead AI feature delivery across the stack, emphasize reliability, data quality, and security, and prefer pairing with engineers over pure planning.

You will mentor engineers, prototype quickly, and shape SDLC tooling with GitHub/GitLab integration, balancing build-vs-buy decisions. Hybrid Marbella or EU remote; competitive salary.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in the JVM/Scala ecosystem or equivalent statically-typed distributed systems background.
• Hands-on experience shipping AI/ML features into production at scale (LLM integration, recommender systems, applied ML, or agentic infrastructure).
• Deep experience with event-driven distributed architectures (Akka/Pekko, Kafka or equivalent).
• Strong experience with distributed systems and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Track record of sound build-vs-buy decisions including cost, latency, data privacy, and vendor risk for AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for AI adoption across Valsea's product, platform, and internal tooling.
• Architect and lead delivery of AI-powered capabilities into the backend stack (Scala/Go/Kafka) including recommendation, personalization, support/fraud signals, and developer tooling.
• Set the vision for AI-enabled QA automation and AI-assisted incident response to improve time-to-detect and time-to-resolve.
• Introduce AI tooling at the root of SDLC pipelines (GitHub/GitLab) to embed AI into shipping processes.
• Evaluate LLM/ML infrastructure (self-hosted and API-based) and balance build-vs-buy decisions.
• Define Product Development standards for AI features (design, testing, monitoring, rollback).
• Mentor senior/mid-level engineers; run design reviews; raise technical standards for AI-driven systems.
• Stay hands-on: prototype, dive into code, and unblock hard integration issues.
