ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for AMR products within its R&D department. You will contribute to technology, software, product, and IP development, serving as a primary contact for product-related issues and driving innovative solutions.

The role requires a strong CAD background, hands-on prototyping, and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance in AMR markets.

Formación

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10 years of experience in design roles.
• Experience with CAD design and conceptual solutions.
• Strong knowledge of SolidWorks, Inventor, PLM, ERP, ALM (Polarion).
• Extensive knowledge of problem solving and regulatory compliance in AMR products.
• Hands-on experience prototyping and validation of mechanical components, including testing and iteration of designs.
• Experience working with manufacturing suppliers (machining, welding, 3D printing, and painting).
• Fluent in Spanish and English.
• Passionate about creativity and teamwork.

This Position reports to:

R&D Team Lead

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions.

Technical/Scientific Proficiency

• Demonstrates solid competence in technologies, tools, and methods in their own area of specialization by solving complex industrial problems, working independently, and with an ability to guide and mentor junior team members.
• Gains acknowledgment as an expert in their field by other members of the R&D/Product Engineering organization.
• Maintains recognized expertise in a specific area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into their own work.

Technology Direction and Customer Centricity

• Demonstrates a solid understanding of the key drivers for ABB, as well as state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and methods in their own business/technology area as well as associated ABB products and offerings.
• Stays abreast of the current and planned R&D activities in their own area of expertise and uses unique technical knowledge to oversee development tasks.
• Understands the customer and business value created by their own contribution in the context of ABB’s overall offering.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Maintaining recognized expertise in a specific area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
• Finding new ways of solving problems by following your ideas, creating hypotheses, and defining ways to validate them.
• Documenting work results (like findings, designs, or software), allowing others to maintain and improve them.
• Understanding and initiating IP generation in your area of specialization and participating in the project IP strategy development.

Qualifications for the Role

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• You have 10 years of experience in design roles
• You enjoy working with CAD design and conceptual solutions
• Possess enhanced knowledge of SolidWorks, Inventor, PLM, ERP, ALM (Polarion)
• You have extensive knowledge of problem solving and regulatory compliance in AMR products
• You have hands‑on experience in prototyping and validation of mechanical components, including testing and iteration of designs
• You are experienced in working with manufacturing suppliers (machining, welding, 3D printing, and painting), ensuring design feasibility and quality
• You are at ease communicating in Spanish and English
• You are passionate about creativity and teamwork
