PhD Researcher in Wildfire Danger Estimation using Remote Sensing and Atmospheric Modelling

The University of Alcalá (UAH) is offering one full-time predoctoral research position associated with the research project PID2025-171046OB-I00, entitled "Improving Forest Fire Danger Estimation through Remote Sensing and Atmospheric Modelling".

The position is funded through the 2025 Knowledge Generation Projects call of the Spanish State Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación, AEI), within the Spanish State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2024-2027.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Geology, Geography and Environment at the University of Alcalá, under the supervision of Principal Investigator Emilio Chuvieco Salinero.

Research area

Wildfires, remote sensing and atmospheric modelling.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to the project's research methodology, particularly through the following activities:

• Supporting the modelling of human-induced wildfire risk.
• Contributing to the estimation of water content.
• Supporting fieldwork activities.
• Generating and updating forest fuel maps.

Contract conditions

• Position: Predoctoral Researcher.
• Number of positions: 1.
• Contract duration: 4 years.
• Employment status: Full-time.
• Working hours: 37.5 hours per week.
• Gross annual salary: EUR 25,456.10.

The contract will be governed by Article 21 of Spanish Law 14/2011 of 1 June on Science, Technology and Innovation.
