UNIVERSIDAD DE GRANADA is seeking a First Stage Researcher (R1) to contribute to the Fire-Tran project and pursue a doctoral dissertation. The role includes fieldwork across Mediterranean forests, data management, and collaboration with international partners.

English communication with collaborators and stakeholders is essential. The candidate will work on data analysis, protocol publishing, and potential pre-doctoral funding opportunities while aiming to advance forest restoration research

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field as required by the project
• Master’s degree in ecology or related field and training in statistical programming or remote sensing must be shown
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher (certificate) and willingness to pursue doctoral studies.

Offer Description

The successful candidate will contribute to the scientific objectives of the Fire-Tran project, ideally while simultaneously working on a doctoral dissertation. The project aims to analyze the response of forest ecosystems to fire in the Mediterranean region. To this end, a local field study will be conducted, and an international network of study sites will be established to identify the factors that influence the response to fire and subsequent restoration treatments. Tasks will include fieldwork, operating scientific equipment, managing databases, conducting statistical analyses, and publishing protocols and results. In addition, the candidate will need to communicate with local stakeholders (e.g., associations and forestry officials) and, in English, with a network of international collaborators who will contribute knowledge and data to the study.

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or Forest Engineering

Specific Requirements

Experience as a field technician in ecology, forestry, or related fields

Experience in database management, data analysis, remote sensing, website development, and/or writing scientific articles

Experience working abroad where it was necessary to collaborate with teams in English

Participation in research projects, particularly international ones

Master’s degree in ecology or in forest management, conservation, or restoration; biodiversity; ecosystem services; or a related field. Training in statistical programming using R or remote sensing and/or website development. English proficiency at the B2 level or higher (attach official certificate)

Expressed interest in and potential for completing a doctoral dissertation and accessing pre-doctoral funding
