The Institute
The Cent re for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
The Malhotra lab is looking to hire a research technician. The candidate will work together with scientists in the lab on ongoing projects, focussing mainly on Golgi apparatus organization and function, and the process of secretion of bulky cargoes such as collagens, mucins and chylomicrons. They will work with the Group Leader on a specific project related to the mechanism by which GRASP family of proteins function in unconventional secretion and with a postdoc, specifically, to develop procedures for testing the function of TANGO1 and its binding partner in skin fibrosis.
The Intracellular compartmentation lab studies different aspects of protein secretion. Protein secretion is an old problem of fundamental interest in cell biology. While over the last decades a lot of progress has been made in understanding protein secretion, a number of questions remain unsolved. The lab aims to understand different aspects of this. On the one hand they study the process whereby cytoplasmic, signal sequence lacking proteins are secreted from cells upon certain stimuli (known as unconventional protein secretion). On the other hand they focus on the transport and secretion of large, complex cargoes (like collagens and mucins) that do not fit the conventional secretory pathway.
Contract duration: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project duration (estimated until 31/8/2027).
Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
Target start date: As soon as possible.
