Job summary

AfterQuery is seeking literary scholars to author and grade close reading and interpretation scenarios for evaluating frontier AI models. This fully remote, async contractor role offers weekly Stripe payments and pay scale based on experience.

You will write reference readings with textual evidence, assess model outputs for fidelity and depth, and flag readings that miss core textual meaning. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree is preferred, with at least two years of professional literary work.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in literature, English, comparative literature, or a closely related field.
• 2+ years of teaching, research, editorial, or published literary work.
• Close reading depth across periods, genres, or traditions.
• Clear written English for documenting interpretive reasoning.
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Author literary scenarios that test close reading and interpretation.
• Write reference readings with textual evidence behind each claim.
• Grade model output for textual fidelity, interpretive depth, and craft awareness.
• Flag readings that sound sophisticated but ignore what the text actually says.
