Job summary

Arup in Spain is seeking a proactive HV Substations Protection & Control, Communications and SCADA Engineer to work on National Grid projects in the United Kingdom. You’ll operate remotely from Spain under a local contract, supported by UK teams, with opportunities for career development and professional registration.

You will contribute to protection and control design, use IEC 61850 standards, and travel up to 30% for project delivery and meetings as required.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering or related field.
Minimum 5 years in protection and control engineering for HV/EHV substations.
Fluent professional English with ability to produce technical documentation.
Willingness to travel up to 30% (UK stays up to two weeks).
Experience with protection relays, substation control, SCADA and IEC 61850-based schemes beneficial.

Responsibilities

Design and review protection and control systems for HV/EHV substations from concept to commissioning.
Prepare protection philosophies, schematics, wiring diagrams and I/O schedules with technical reviews.
Support schemes for lines, transformers, busbars, safeguards and autoreclose functions.
Coordinate protection settings and fault studies with multidisciplinary teams.
Develop and review substation automation architectures and network topologies.
Apply IEC 61850 data modelling, GOOSE, MMS and SCL files in multi-vendor environments.
