Position Summary
The Power Infra Project Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of the electrical power infrastructure required to energize IREN’s next-generation, renewable-powered data center projects. Reporting to the Project Director, the role provides project management leadership across grid connection, high- and medium-voltage infrastructure, substations, transformers, transmission and distribution interfaces, and associated balance-of-plant works required to provide reliable and scalable power to the data center campus.
The role acts as the primary project management focal point for power infrastructure, coordinating internal teams, engineering consultants, utilities and grid stakeholders, EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, specialist vendors, permitting authorities, and the wider Data Center project organization. The role ensures that power infrastructure is designed, permitted, procured, constructed, tested, energized, and handed over safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with technical, contractual, regulatory, grid, and operational requirements.
This role is critical to the successful delivery of IREN’s Spain data center projects, ensuring that external and campus power infrastructure is available in line with the data center energization strategy and construction schedule. The Power Infra Project Manager maintains clear control of scope , cost , schedule , risks , changes , contracts , interfaces , and energization milestones while driving resolution of critical dependencies that could impact overall project delivery.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Director, the Power Infra Project Manager is responsible for:
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of power infrastructure packages required to energize the data center, including grid connection works, HV/MV substations, transformers, switchgear, transmission and distribution infrastructure, underground and/or overhead electrical connections, protection and control systems, metering, telecommunications interfaces, grounding systems, and associated civil and balance-of-plant works.
- Develop and manage the power infrastructure delivery strategy by defining project scope, execution approach, contracting strategy, key milestones, procurement requirements, construction sequencing, energization strategy, interfaces, risks, and resources in alignment with the overall data center master plan.
- Support the Project Director in delivering overall project objectives by maintaining clear visibility of power infrastructure progress, cost, schedule, risks, constraints, decisions, grid dependencies, and energization milestones and by escalating critical matters requiring project-level intervention.
- Manage grid connection and utility interfaces by coordinating technical and project requirements with utilities, transmission and distribution stakeholders, engineering teams, contractors, and relevant authorities to ensure that connection infrastructure and associated requirements are delivered in line with project energization needs.
- Manage engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and energization activities by coordinating the complete lifecycle of power infrastructure packages and ensuring effective transition between project phases.
- Manage EPC contractors, engineering consultants, specialist contractors, and equipment vendors by establishing clear delivery expectations, monitoring contractual deliverables and performance, reviewing progress, and driving corrective and recovery actions where required.
- Coordinate power infrastructure design activities by working with Engineering, consultants, contractors, utilities, and equipment manufacturers to ensure design maturity, technical compliance, constructability, operability, maintainability, grid compliance, and alignment with the data center electrical architecture.
- Manage interfaces between external power infrastructure and the Data Center project by coordinating connection points, voltage levels, substation interfaces, protection philosophy, metering, controls, telecommunications, grounding, energization boundaries, testing requirements, and physical construction interfaces.
- Coordinate closely with Data Center Electrical, CSA, Mechanical, BMS/Controls, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations teams to ensure that power availability and energization milestones remain aligned with building construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and operational readiness requirements.
- Manage power infrastructure schedule performance by developing and monitoring key milestones, reviewing contractor and supplier schedules, identifying critical-path activities and dependencies, monitoring long-lead equipment, and implementing mitigation and recovery actions where required.
- Maintain particular focus on energization-critical milestones including design approvals, permitting, utility dependencies, equipment manufacturing, factory testing, site readiness, installation, protection testing, pre-energization activities, utility approvals, and final energization.
- Manage project cost performance in coordination with the Project Director, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, and Project Controls teams by monitoring budgets, commitments, actuals, forecasts, Estimate at Completion (EAC), variations, claims, contingency, and cost risks associated with power infrastructure packages.
- Manage scope and change control by identifying potential changes, evaluating technical, commercial, schedule, regulatory, grid, and operational impacts, coordinating stakeholder reviews, and ensuring appropriate approval and implementation of changes.
- Manage project risks and opportunities by identifying and actively managing technical, grid connection, permitting, procurement, contractor, equipment, construction, interface, energization, commercial, and schedule risks that could affect power availability or overall data center delivery.
- Support procurement and contracting strategy by defining package requirements, contributing to tendering and contractor selection, reviewing technical and commercial proposals, supporting negotiations, and ensuring that contracting and procurement activities support the required delivery schedule.
- Manage long-lead electrical equipment by coordinating specification, procurement, manufacturing, factory inspections and testing, logistics, delivery, installation, and vendor support for critical equipment such as power transformers, HV/MV switchgear, protection and control systems, and other major power infrastructure components.
- Monitor contractor and vendor performance against contractual, technical, quality, safety, cost, and schedule requirements and ensure that performance issues are identified early and addressed through appropriate corrective actions.
- Coordinate permitting and regulatory requirements associated with power infrastructure by working with Engineering, utilities, consultants, contractors, Legal/Permitting teams, and relevant authorities to ensure that required approvals are obtained in line with construction and energization milestones.
- Ensure quality performance across power infrastructure packages by coordinating with Engineering, Construction, Quality, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, inspection and test plans, manufacturer requirements, applicable standards, and grid requirements.
- Promote and support strong HSE performance across power infrastructure activities, with particular attention to high-voltage construction, electrical safety, lifting operations, energization activities, LOTO, controlled access, and other high-risk construction and commissioning activities.
- Manage testing and energization readiness by coordinating construction completion, inspections, factory and site acceptance testing, protection and control testing, cable testing, equipment commissioning, utility requirements, energization procedures, documentation, and approval gates.
