Fluor in Spain is seeking a Senior HSE Engineer specializing in Fire Protection and Process Safety to join our engineering team.

You will lead fire protection design, perform water-demand calculations, review P&IDs, and support risk studies (HAZID/HAZOP/SIL) across industrial and energy projects.

Fluor offers a challenging, internationally oriented environment; relocation to Tarragona, Spain is expected for the role.

Formación

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of HSE engineering experience.
• Minimum 7 years of fire protection engineering for industrial and/or energy projects.
• Experience in Active Fire Protection Systems, Fire Protection Design Basis, and Fire Protection Philosophies.
• Experience with Fire Water Demand Calculations, Fire Water Networks, Deluge Systems, and Fire Protection P&IDs.
• Fluent English and Spanish (written and spoken).
• Willingness to relocate to Tarragona, Spain.

Responsabilidades

• Develop and review Fire Protection Design Basis, Fire Protection Philosophies, and Fire Protection Specifications.
• Design and assess active fire protection systems, including water networks, hydrants, monitors, deluge systems, sprinklers, foam systems, and detection systems.
• Perform fire water demand and hydraulic calculations.
• Prepare and review fire protection P&IDs, layouts, Fire & Gas Cause & Effect documentation, and related engineering deliverables.
• Support project estimating activities through preparation of fire protection cost estimates.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Contribute to process safety studies and risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL).
• Support development of risk mitigation measures and process safety deliverables.
• Participate in multidisciplinary safety reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support regulatory compliance and permitting activities.
• Interface with clients, regulatory authorities, and third-party stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project teams.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior HSE Engineer specializing in Fire Protection Engineering to join our engineering team in Spain.

Key Responsibilities

Fire Protection Engineering

• Develop and review Fire Protection Design Basis, Fire Protection Philosophies, and Fire Protection Specifications.
• Design and assess active fire protection systems, including fire water networks, hydrants, monitors, deluge systems, sprinklers, foam systems, and fire detection and alarm systems.
• Perform fire water demand and hydraulic calculations.
• Prepare and review fire protection P&IDs, layouts, Fire & Gas Cause & Effect documentation, and related engineering deliverables.
• Support project estimating activities through preparation of fire protection cost estimates.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.

Process Safety Support

• Contribute to process safety studies and risk assessments, including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, as required.
• Support the development of risk mitigation measures and process safety deliverables.
• Participate in multidisciplinary safety reviews throughout the project lifecycle.

Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

• Support regulatory compliance and permitting activities.
• Interface with clients, regulatory authorities, and third-party stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project teams.

Basic Job Requirements

Must Have

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of HSE engineering experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in fire protection engineering for industrial and/or energy projects.
• Demonstrated experience in:
  • Active Fire Protection Systems.
  • Fire Protection Design Basis and Fire Protection Philosophies.
  • Fire Protection Specifications.
  • Fire Water Demand Calculations and Fire Water Networks.
  • Deluge System and Fire Protection P&IDs.
  • Fire Protection Layouts.
  • Fire & Gas Cause & Effect documentation.
  • Fire Protection Cost Estimates.
  • Fluent English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to relocate to Tarragona, Spain

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Passive Fire Protection design and assessment.
• Experience supporting HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL studies.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
• Knowledge of dispersion modeling and loss of containment analysis.
• Experience with hazardous area classification (ATEX).
• Knowledge of environmental safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Previous experience working for or with Repsol, Moeve, BP, or other major energy operators.

Technical Knowledge

Working knowledge of industry-recognized codes and standards, including:

• NFPA Codes and Standards
• ATEX Directives
• RIPCI
• RSCIEI
• CTE
• IEC Standards and relevant industrial safety regulations

Experience with fire protection and process safety software such as PIPENET, PHAST, AutoSPRINK, FDS, HASS/HAAS, or equivalent tools is considered an advantage.
