Job summary

Gradiant, a leading technology center in Galicia, seeks a senior photonics researcher to advance RF photonics and PIC-based technologies within the Advanced Communications Area. You will lead photonic projects end-to-end, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to society‑impacting innovation across edge, computing, and sensing domains.

Qualifications

• Hands-on photonics experience in RF/microwave photonics, PICs, packaging, or hybrid systems.
• Experience in project-oriented environments with planning, documentation and coordination of teams or stakeholders.
• Strong physics background with programming (Python/Matlab) and EM simulation tools.
• Hands-on experimental experience in optical labs, cleanrooms, electronics, or device/system measurements.
• PhD or 5+ years in photonics or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the strategic evolution of the photonic line by evaluating emerging technologies and guiding innovative solutions from concept through validated implementation.
• Drive innovation by proposing new technical ideas and contributing to research and project proposals with clear societal and technological impact.
• Lead photonic projects end-to-end, translating project requirements into effective technical execution to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers and researchers, fostering technical growth, knowledge sharing, and strong team collaboration.
• Support on the design and development of photonic solutions across diverse application domains from system-level architecture to IC layout, modeling and simulation.
• Support on the assembly, test, and validation of photonic hardware and early-stage prototypes, ensuring performance.
