Job description

The laboratory of Synaptic Plasticity (Spine Lab) led by Dr. Miquel Bosch at the International University of Catalonia (UIC-Barcelona) is looking for a student interested in a doctoral thesis in the field of Neurosciences. We offer the possibility of joining a young group, associated with UIC-Barcelona and the Institute of Neurosciences, Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory. We want to understand which molecules are responsible for "saving" the information in our brain. We manipulate the activity of individual synapses using confocal or multiphoton microscopy, and photopharmacology tools (light-activated drugs). We study how the plasticity of synapses is synchronized with brain waves, and how they are altered in neurodevelopmental diseases, such as those on the autism spectrum. We use electrophysiology, optogenetics, gene manipulation techniques in cell cultures and tissues, andtransgenic animal models of psychiatric diseases to develop brain mapping technologies and therapies based on photopharmacology.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates willing to learn cutting-edge technologies and highly motivated to start a scientific career in biomedicine and neuroscience. Applying candidates must hold an official master's degree and a degree in Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Biology, Biochemistry,Pharmacy... with a degree grade > 8.3/10 in order to apply to an internal predoctoral fellowship from UIC, the FPU or the Joan Oró FI fellowships. Experience in molecular and cellular biology, neurobiology and microscopy will be highly valued. A good level of English is required.
