The Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ, UPV–CSIC) in Valencia (Spain) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a competitive research project on heterogeneous catalysis and energy transition.

Research topic

The PhD project will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of mixed-oxide catalysts for application in chemical looping processes aimed at energy transition and industrial decarbonization.

The work will involve

  • Advanced synthesis of mixed oxides, doped systems, and perovskites.
  • Structural and surface characterization (XRD, BET, XPS, TEM, TPR, etc.).
  • Catalytic testing in chemical looping reactors for partial oxidation and clean energy carrier production.
  • Mechanistic modeling and long-term stability studies.

Candidate profile

  • BSc + MSc degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanoscience, or related disciplines.
  • Strong academic record enabling access to a doctoral program.
  • Motivation for experimental research in catalysis and materials.
  • Good command of English (B2 or higher).

Additional assets:

  • Previous lab experience in catalysis or solid-state chemistry.
  • Familiarity with material characterization techniques.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
