IRTA invites applications for a PhD Candidate within the Sustainability in Biosystems Program based at Torre Marimon, Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona). The role focuses on prospective LCA in agri‑food contexts, integrating economic and environmental analyses to develop eco‑efficiency indicators for post‑harvest technologies.

You will work on an international project (HYPOSAVE) tackling fruit/veg postharvest challenges, with a four‑year contract and progressive salary scale. Start date January 2026.

Formación

• Master in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Agriculture Sciences, or related.
• Experience in LCA and LCA software.
• Dissemination skills: presentation/communication and technical writing.
• Proficiency in English both spoken and written.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to adapt to multidisciplinary environments.
• Research skills: literature review, data analysis, scientific article writing.
• Knowledge of Prospective, Consequential, Input/Output or other LCA variations.
• Familiarity with Brightway LCA environment.
• Experience in developing LCA metrics or tools requiring upscaling and simplification.
• Catalan and Spanish are valued.

Responsabilidades

• Define the prospective LCA framework in collaboration with project partners.
• Develop inventory data collection templates and oversee primary LCI data collection.
• Model and assess environmental impacts of baseline and improved postharvest scenarios.
• Develop and apply eco‑efficiency metrics from LCA and techno‑economic results.
• Perform sensitivity, uncertainty and scalability analyses of LCA outcomes.
• Translate results into decision‑support material: dashboards, tables, figures, briefs, manuscripts.
• Interact with public and private partners of the HYPOSAVE project.
• Support knowledge transfer and dissemination to sector and policy makers.
• Contribute to teamwork and collaboration within Sustainability in Biosystems program.
