New Construction Surveyor – Lloyds Register

Location: Vigo, Spain

What we are looking for

The purpose of this role is to survey for shipbuilding projects in accordance with the applicable international standards and class rules, using procedures, experience and knowledge appropriate for the above-mentioned aspects, and to provide technical support to our clients.

The successful candidate would be initially based at the LR Vigo Office, Spain to attend the ongoing projects. Depending on workload and individual circumstances, temporary or permanent relocation to alternative working locations within Spain might be required later.

The role

• Working as a member of the Spain New Construction Team carrying out new construction surveys against a range of Class Rules and statutory codes as directed by the Senior Project Manager.
• Working as a member of the service delivery team in Vigo carrying out surveys of equipment and components at manufacturers’ works and existing ship surveys against a range of Class Rules and statutory codes as directed by the Vigo port team leader. This would be a secondary role during the new building projects and later might be a main role depending on the office workload.
• To build and maintain a good relationship with our clients and internal stakeholders.
• Produce the required deliverables within the agreed broad parameters in a defined format and review other employees’ work where requested.
• Actively seeking to ensure client satisfaction and to generate new opportunities with our clients.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
• To provide support / advice within area of specialist knowledge to internal / external clients.
• Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
• The above job description does not preclude the assignment of other duties by your line manager.

What you bring

• A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyds Register within the relevant field of engineering (minimum of two years programme) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ships officer.
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• Proficiency in the English and Spanish language (written and oral) commensurate with the work and an ability to write detailed technical reports and design appraisal documents.
• Could work both independently and as part of a team to prioritize work and meet LR and Clients deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• It is preferable that the individual should understand the responsibilities of a Classification Society and the interface between Class Rules and Statutory Regulations.
• Previous experience as Marine Surveyor or Owner Superintendent will be a plus. Experience as Chief Engineer or Shipbuilding Engineer would also be taken into account.
