Descripción del empleo
Overview

We are looking for talented individuals to join our Energy and Natural Resources business in London, Berlin/Frankfurt and Madrid. Since 1961, NERA has provided unparalleled guidance on the most important market, legal, and regulatory questions of the day, shaping industries and policy around the world. Our field‑leading experts and deep experience allow us to provide rigorous analysis, reliable expert testimony, and data‑powered policy recommendations for leading law firms, corporations, regulators, and governments. The work environment is collegial, with numerous opportunities to learn and connect with staff at all levels.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate climate change and energy policies, including emissions, renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Assess economic impacts—costs, benefits, and social effects—of government policies and regulations on markets, businesses, and assets.
  • Design and simulate auctions, conduct competitors’ analysis, and develop pricing systems for transport infrastructure.
  • Prepare expert reports on a range of economic and finance issues in litigation and international arbitration proceedings.

Research Officers and Economic Analysts at NERA will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply the technical skills and knowledge gained during their graduate studies to regulated industries across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Perform and develop cutting‑edge economic analysis on complex real‑life issues.
  • Write research reports and prepare client presentations for senior staff and clients to inform economic decisions.
  • Influence project strategy, including the preparation and presentation of oral and written submissions.
  • Collaborate with in‑house experts and outside academics.
  • Develop and strengthen both project and people management skills.
  • Develop and deliver internal training sessions.
You will need
  • To hold a BA/BSc and a Master’s or PhD in Economics with exceptional academic records. Specialisms such as microeconomics, IO, econometrics, and finance are of particular interest, but we employ strong analytic and empirical economists from any field.
  • To enjoy microeconomics and quantitative research.
  • To be comfortable working with Excel, Stata, R, Python, or other quantitative software platforms.
  • To have strong attention to detail and think analytically and critically.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken. Fluency in another language is useful but not essential.
  • To work effectively both individually and in teams.
What we offer
  • Opportunity to work on high‑profile projects and apply your knowledge to real-world problems.
  • Competitive salary and extensive benefits package, including a defined‑contribution pension and health insurance.
  • Support for development through high‑quality training.
  • A ‘buddy’ to help integrate you into the firm and support you throughout.
  • Firm‑sponsored social activities.
  • A hybrid working model providing the benefits of remote and in‑office work.
  • Potential travel opportunities.
