This role requires strong underwriting expertise and the ability to lead through influence across cultures and jurisdictions while managing key relationships in the insurance marketplace.

The ideal candidate will define underwriting strategies, monitor portfolio performance, and represent Chubb at industry events. This position involves hands-on engagement with internal stakeholders and external clients to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Job Summary

The Life Science Leader, CEMENA is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic development and profitable growth of Chubb's Life Science practice across the Continental Europe, Middle East and North Africa region. The role holder serves as the primary subject matter expert and commercial lead for the Life Science segment, working in close partnership with underwriting teams, distribution partners, and global practice leads.

Operating within a matrix structure, these individuals shape the regional Life Science underwriting agenda — setting standards, building market presence, and translating Chubb's global capabilities into locally relevant, technically sound solutions. The role combines deep underwriting expertise with strong commercial acumen and the ability to lead through influence across multiple jurisdictions and cultures.

This position demands both strategic vision and hands‑on engagement with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

Reports directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer CEMENA.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
   • Define and execute the Life Science underwriting strategy for CEMENA, ensuring alignment with Chubb's global practice direction and regional business objectives.
   • Manage and optimise the regional Life Science portfolio — driving growth, retention, and profitability through disciplined risk selection, strategic account prioritisation, and consistent application of underwriting guidelines.
   • Monitor portfolio performance through rigorous loss analysis, pricing adequacy reviews, and data‑driven insights; identify trends, articulate findings clearly to senior leadership, and recommend corrective actions where required.
   • Set and uphold underwriting standards, documentation practices, and thought process quality in line with Chubb's policies and the regulatory requirements.
2. Business Development & Client Engagement
   • Identify, prioritise, and develop new business opportunities across the Life Science segment — working with brokers, agents, distribution partners, and direct clients to maximise the regional pipeline.
   • Build and nurture trusted, long‑term relationships with key decision makers, influencers, and buyers within the Life Science industry and the broader insurance marketplace.
   • Lead complex account negotiations and coverage design discussions, delivering tailored solutions that balance client needs with underwriting profitability and Chubb's risk appetite.
   • Represent Chubb as a credible thought leader in the Life Science space through client engagements, industry events, market presentations, and strategic broker dialogue.
3. Underwriting Excellence
   • Apply underwriting expertise to assess, price, and structure Life Science risks with technical rigour, sound judgement, and in full alignment with Chubb's risk appetite and strategy.
   • Evaluate risk profiles, exposure structures, and coverage terms — designing solutions that meet client and distribution partner needs while generating underwriting profit for the organisation.
   • Drive consistency and quality in the regional underwriting approach, mentoring and guiding underwriting colleagues where applicable and promoting best practice across the CEMENA community.
   • Stay current on Life Science industry trends, emerging exposures, regulatory developments, competitor positioning, and market pricing dynamics across all relevant CEMENA markets.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration & Matrix Leadership
   • Work effectively within Chubb's matrix organisation, collaborating with country leaders, product heads, claims, legal, and global practice teams to deliver cohesive, high‑quality solutions.
   • Communicate complex underwriting and risk information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences — from senior executives and clients to distribution partners and country teams.
   • Contribute to regional and global Life Science initiatives, sharing market intelligence, loss insights, and underwriting best practices to strengthen Chubb's overall practice capability.
   • Support the Chief Underwriting Officer, CEMENA in shaping the broader underwriting agenda, providing regular and transparent reporting on Life Science portfolio performance and strategic developments.
