Elasticsearch B.V. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to enhance the vector similarity search capabilities within Elasticsearch. You will lead efforts in building a fast, feature-rich vector database, working with a globally distributed team to deliver robust search experiences.

You will contribute to new search features, fix complex bugs, and possibly design new algorithms. The role emphasizes autonomous work, high standards, and collaboration across time zones and teams.

Formación

• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases, using algorithms like HNSW or IVF at scale.
• Strong skills in core Java and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive projects from design to delivery, including cross-team collaboration.
• Experience collaborating over the internet (asynchronous work) and contributor to open source/open collaboration.
• Experience with storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Cassandra and understanding why they work.

Responsabilidades

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to create an industry-leading vector database offering with high speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs, possibly inventing new algorithms or data structures.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Serve as an expert on vector similarity implementation in Elasticsearch and improve this area over time.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, triaging or handling them independently.
• Write idiomatic modern Java as part of Elasticsearch development.
