Dow Jones Barcelona is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive architectural decisions and build scalable web, mobile and AI platforms for our premium brands. You will work with product managers and designers to shape the platform that enables innovation across Dow Jones.

You will guide a team of engineers, promote best practices, ensure reliable deployments, and help scale products, with a focus on performance and maintainability in a fast-paced publishing environment.

Formación

• 5+ years in software engineering with 2-4 years in a lead role.
• Experience with B2C/B2B digital products and subscription models.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript and web best practices.
• Experience with AI tools to improve productivity for consumer products.
• Familiarity with cloud architectures and scale considerations.

About the Role:

This role is within the Dow Jones Platform Team, responsible for building next-gen web, mobile and AI platforms for premium Dow Jones brands across our B2C and B2B portfolio. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of engineers, product managers, and product designers to define, architect, and build the platform that will drive product innovation across Dow Jones.

Lead Software Engineers focus on designing, architecting, building and ensuring the delivery of applications and services to the business. They continuously strive to improve the release and development processes to ensure reliable and high quality products. They champion the product scalability, usability, reliability, functionality and performance-related aspects of the system. They scale themselves by delegating effectively to ensure tasks are completed as specified. They are proactive in identifying and clearing roadblocks for the team.

You Will:

• Define and implement application architecture models and programming standards with direction setting support.
• Analyze complex technological problems and present solutions that span across multiple engineering teams
• Partner effectively with product to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap
• Successfully collaborate with engineers across Dow Jones and News Corp to build out products and leverage shared technologies
• Handle and oversee deployments to production environments
• Design and implement the developers’, testing, application monitoring/control, change management and implementation.
• Defines application development standards for designing, building and maintaining applications, application components, and common services including the recommended use of languages and tools.
• Be able to identify areas of strategic technical debt and provide cost/benefit analysis for eliminating this debt and suggested timelines for how to prioritize it

You Have:

• 5+ years in software engineering, with 2-4 years in a lead engineering role
• Knowledge of commercial business models across B2C and B2B digital products.
• Substantial experience in building online subscription products, advertising and privacy technologies, and high-traffic websites
• Strong understanding of Javascript and the best practices around the web
• Advanced CSS Knowledge: Grid, Flexbox, Media Queries, Container Queries, Transitions, etc.
• Experience with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI, etc.) for the purpose of improving productivity and building consumer facing products.
• Familiarity with designing and development of agentic software solutions
• Record of collaborating with other engineers in large scale projects
• Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals including web development, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development and domain driven design
• Proven understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including computer architecture, data structures, memory allocation and management, algorithms, and networking BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent is a plus

Desired Technical Skills:

• Fluency in Node.js

• Significant hands on experience with AWS, GCP and/or other cloud providers
• Exposure to Docker or other container based application deployment
• Experience with technologies: ExpressJs, React, Redis, NextJs, Terraform, Webpack, Elastic Search, GraphQL, React-Native, REST APIs, RDBMS & NoSQL, CLI & MCP
