Dow Jones is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Barcelona to lead the development of real-time content systems and modernize news delivery platforms. You will work with GenAI, AWS, service mesh, Kafka, and data lake technologies, collaborating with Newswires, Factiva, and The Wall Street Journal teams to build scalable backend services.

The ideal candidate has extensive backend experience, strong REST API design skills, and a track record in multi-region deployments within Agile environments.

Formación

• 7+ years of software development experience in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience building microservices in a service mesh and deploying RESTful APIs.
• Experience with multi-region, multi-environment CI/CD and disaster recovery.
• Experience writing secure code and addressing security vulnerabilities.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum in distributed teams.

Responsabilidades

• Engage in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle to design, develop, test and deploy high quality solutions using Agile/Scrum.
• Work with technologies including: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Istio, Envoy, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka, GenAI, Terraform, Chef, Jenkins, JSON, XML, MySQL or other Relational Database.
• Perform investigation, analysis, evaluation and prototyping to determine project feasibility.
• Partner collaboratively with stakeholders to manage scope, milestones, deliverables and timelines on technical projects.
• Provide feedback, guidance and training to management and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrate knowledge of industry trends, technologies, tools and systems.

About the Role:

As a Staff Software Engineer in the Content Services technology team, you will work in a fast paced environment with a number of technologies including: Gen AI, AWS, service mesh, Kafka and data lake storage as well as real-time news systems, automation, web scraping and data extraction. You will take part in a transformational effort to modernize our real-time news systems and other content systems that feed and enrich our many products including Newswires, Factiva and the Wall Street Journal. The ideal candidate will be creative, flexible to adapt to a changing environment, eager to learn new skills and adept at critical thinking. This position reports to: Senior Manager, Engineering.

You Will:

• Engage in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle to design, develop, test and deploy high quality solutions using the Agile/Scrum methodology and working with technologies including: AWS Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Istio, Envoy, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka, GenAI, Terraform, Chef, Jenkins, JSON, XML, MySQL or other Relational Database
• Perform investigation, analysis, evaluation and prototyping to determine project feasibility
• Partner collaboratively and effectively with stakeholders to manage scope, milestones, deliverables and timelines on technical projects
• Provide feedback, guidance, recommendations and training to management and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrate knowledge of industry trends, technologies, tools and systems.

You Have:

• 7+ years of experience
• Experience creating and deploying microservices in a service mesh environment
• Experience implementing RESTful APIs following industry standards
• Experience implementing, testing, deploying, troubleshooting and supporting multi-region, multi-environment systems with CI/CD, high availability, and disaster recovery
• Experience in writing secure code and resolving security vulnerabilities in existing code
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology in a geographically and culturally diverse team.
• 5+years building high-performance backend systems as a full stack software engineer
• 5+ years as a Java developer in a Linux environment
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred

Base Pay Range: €70,000 - €90,000
