Job summary

IDOM in Barcelona and Madrid seeks a Junior Ports & Maritime Transport Consultant to join our offices in Barcelona or Madrid. You will participate in technical-economic and strategic projects for port authorities, terminal operators, shipping companies, private investors, multilateral organizations, and financial institutions.

You will work on market studies, business plans, port planning, and feasibility analyses while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Hold a Master's degree in Civil/Industrial Engineering or Economics.
• 1–3 years of experience in transport consulting or related fields.
• Experience in port/maritime sector projects is highly valued.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work with data and complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Gather, structure, and analyze information for strategic, commercial, economic, and operational studies.
• Develop analyses related to ports, terminals, infrastructure, and maritime transport.
• Interpret technical documentation and bridge engineering and business perspectives.
• Take increasing responsibility for parts of studies and deliverables.
• Prepare high-quality client deliverables including reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with IDOM specialists and participate in client meetings.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking to hire a Junior Ports & Maritime Transport Consultant to join our offices in Barcelona or Madrid.

You will participate in technical-economic and strategic consulting projects for port authorities and public administrations, terminal operators, shipping companies, private investors, multilateral organizations, and financial institutions.

Among other areas, you will have the opportunity to work on:

• Market studies, demand analyses, and traffic forecasts.
• Business strategies and business plans for ports, terminals, and maritime sector companies.
• Port planning and development.
• Technical and economic feasibility studies.
• Capacity, operations, and performance analyses.
• Concessions, PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships), and investment opportunity assessments.
• Technical and commercial due diligence projects.
• Sustainability, decarbonization, energy transition, and new business opportunities linked to the maritime and port sector.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Gathering, structuring, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative information and data to support strategic, commercial, economic, and operational studies.
• Developing economic, financial, market, and technical analyses related to ports, terminals, infrastructure, and maritime transport.
• Interpreting and working with technical documentation, databases, and engineering plans, bridging engineering and business perspectives.
• Gradually taking responsibility for specific parts of studies and analyses, working with increasing autonomy within the team.
• Preparing high-quality client deliverables, including analyses, reports, charts, and professional presentations.
• Collaborating with IDOM specialists from different disciplines and progressively participating in client meetings and workshops.
• Supporting the preparation of commercial proposals and tenders.
• Actively contributing to teamwork and knowledge sharing.

ABOUT YOU

Apply if you…

• Hold a Master's degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related discipline.
• Have between 1 and 3 years of experience in transport consulting, infrastructure consulting, or related fields.
• Experience in port and maritime sector projects will be highly valued.
