Job description

Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy. With us, you will build a forward-looking career and contribute directly to the integration of renewable energy into the power system.

As part of the build-up of our Madrid 24/7 setup, we are looking for motivated early-career professionals who want to develop in intraday power trading and dispatch operations. You will join a structured learning environment, work alongside experienced traders and progressively take responsibility in live market operations.

Working in Energy Management:

Providing power efficiently and reliably is one of the core challenges of an energy system with increasing solar and wind generation. Our intraday trading teams execute day-to-day market activities and optimise Statkraft’s Origination activities and owned assets. Origination and Energy Management work closely together, combining commercial expertise with 24/7 optimisation capabilities across short-term markets.

The teams balance intermittent generation, dispatch flexible assets and use manual and automated trading solutions. We operate critical infrastructure and therefore combine commercial decision-making with safe, reliable and compliant operations.

What do we do?

Energy Management is responsible for balancing renewable generation, dispatching flexible assets and optimising positions across short-term power markets. Traders monitor forecasts and market movements, supervise automated applications, coordinate with internal stakeholders and asset operators, and take operational decisions around the clock.

Spain is a core growth market for Statkraft, combining large-scale renewable generation and storage with an integrated Markets and Origination platform. The Madrid team will support the continued development of Statkraft’s short-term trading and flexibility optimisation activities in Spain.

Job Description

As a Junior Intraday Shift Trader for Spain, you will be part of Statkraft’s growing 24/7 Energy Management team. With training, coaching and support from experienced colleagues, you will learn to balance renewable generation, dispatch flexible assets and optimise positions across Iberian short-term power markets.

You will work where commercial judgement, technology and operational excellence come together. The role offers a strong development path towards becoming an independent shift trader within an advanced European short-term trading organisation.

In this role you will:

  • Complete a structured onboarding and training programme covering Iberian power markets, operational systems, shift routines and risk controls
  • Monitor renewable generation, battery storage and flexible asset portfolios in real time under the guidance of experienced shift traders
  • Support the execution of trades and operational actions across Iberian short-term power markets
  • Learn to identify and respond to forecast changes, market movements, imbalance exposure and operational constraints
  • Supervise automated trading and optimisation applications, elevate anomalies and support safe operational intervention
  • Contribute to accurate shift handovers, operational documentation, incident follow-up and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, asset operators and transmission system operators in line with established procedures
  • Apply trading mandates, operational controls and compliance requirements consistently during every shift
  • Work with quantitative analysts, developers, portfolio managers and traders to improve tools, models and processes
  • Develop practical knowledge of battery optimisation, flexibility products and renewable portfolio management
  • Build the judgement, discipline and ownership required to take increasing responsibility during live market situations
  • Contribute to an open learning culture through feedback, knowledge sharing and structured reflection

  • A high sense of responsibility, attention to detail and willingness to follow robust operational processes
  • Good communication and teamwork skills in an international environment
  • Ability to learn quickly, receive feedback and progressively take ownership
  • Willingness to work in a 24/7 shift environment
