Grifols, S.A. seeks an Innovation Scientist to drive R&D in molecular biology, NGS, and microbiology, handling diverse biological samples in a highly regulated environment.

You will design experiments, develop techniques, and guide cross-functional teams including Regulatory Affairs and Manufacturing, ensuring quality and compliance in line with ISO 13485 and 21 CFR Part 820.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Molecular Biology/NGS preferred; 2 years lab experience valued.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biochemistry or Life Sciences.
• Experience handling biological samples and microorganisms.
• Experience with molecular techniques (extraction, PCR, NGS).
• Proficiency in data analysis using R, JMP, or bioinformatics tools.
• English at least B2.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Progenika Biopharma S.A. is seeking an Innovation Scientist to join its R&D Department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing analytical methods based on Molecular Biology, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and Microbiology, working with biological samples and a variety of microorganisms.

In addition, you will provide scientific guidance and be responsible for the design and execution of experiments, as well as sample preparation for proof-of-concept studies and validations, in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory procedures.

What your responsibilities will be

Design, propose, execute and analyze experiments, ensuring the generation of high-quality results.

Work collaboratively as part of a team to perform and manage routine laboratory activities.

Develop and apply molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR and NGS.

Analyze experimental data and communicate findings effectively to the rest of the team.

Ensure compliance with company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements for design, analysis, reporting and product development in accordance with ISO 13485 and 21 CFR Part 820.

Conduct research into new methodologies, train laboratory personnel and deliver presentations in English to cross-functional teams.

Work withBiosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) materials, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and/or human clinical samples (e.g., serum, plasma, stool, respiratory specimens, etc.).

Collaborate with other R&D teams, particularly the team based inSan Diego.

Partner closely with the Regulatory Affairs, Quality Control, and Manufacturing departments.

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or another Life Sciences/Health Sciences discipline.
• PhD is required, preferably with a specialization in Molecular Biology and/or Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or combined with 2 years of laboratory experience (highly valued).
• You have strong technical and hands‑on expertise in handling biological samples and microorganisms, as well as experience with laboratory analysis systems used in clinical diagnostics, ideally within a hospital and/or pharmaceutical industry.
• Knowledge and practical experience in molecular techniques, particularly those used for the detection and characterization of microorganisms (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, PCR, NGS).
• Proficiency in data analysis using tools such as R, JMP, and bioinformatics software.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• English proficiency at a minimum level equivalent to the Cambridge First Certificate (B2).
