Offer Description

We are offering a postdoc position within the framework of a European Innovation Council project (EIC-Pathfinder Open HeartVision).

The position is offered at the Dynamic Optical Systems Lab at Universitat de Barcelona-

The project aims to develop an original minimally invasive microscope to characterize cellular morphology and health of engineered heart tissue. The new system, called In-vivo Scope, will synergistically combine ultrasound with optical endoscopy.

The candidate's main task will be to work on the development of the In-vivo Scope system, including assembly of the optical components, fabrication of acoustic holograms, and optical characterization. Some modeling of light-ultrasound interactions is expected. She/he will actively participate in the group activities, present the results at international conferences, write manuscripts and grants, and supervise PhD and master students.

The application period is from25 September to 8 October 2026.

We are looking for a highly-motivated and academically curious team player with:

• A PhD in physics, optics, ultrasound, or engineering
• Strong communication skills in both spoken and written English to work on an interdisciplinary project;

Programming skills in Python, Matlab or LabView

Specific Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess proficiency in these areas (but it is not required):

• A background in optical microscopy or ultrasound imagin

Experience in designing optical systems - from hardware to software implementation, including FPGA controlling

Languages ENGLISH Level Excellent

Research Field EngineeringPhysics Years of Research Experience 4 - 10

Eligibility criteria

• Adequacy of the CV (maximum 50)

Specialty doctorate (30), generic doctorate (10)

Letter of motivation (maximum 20)

Experience in the field (maximum 30).

Minimum score to pass the selection process: 80/100 points.

Selection process

An interview will be conducted if the evaluation committee deems it necessary.

Be in possession of the doctor's degree at the time of the formalization of the contract.

Additional comments

Duration of the contract of employment: 12 months, renewable up to 30/06/2030.

The candidate proposed for hiring must accept the job offer within 3 working days from the date of notification of the selection.
