DeepRec.ai in Barcelona is seeking a Head of Machine Learning to set the AI strategy and lead the technical direction of the company.

You will design and deploy production-grade agent-based AI systems for complex, multi-step workflows, shape the architecture from day one, and work directly with the founders to translate bold ideas into scalable solutions.

This role demands hands-on backend work, strong ML instincts, and a track record of delivering reliable, low-latency systems.

Formación

• Strong Python backend and FastAPI experience.
• Production-level LLM applications with multi-agent architectures.

Build production AI systems that solve real-world problems. An ambitious, venture-backed startup is looking for an experienced AI Lead to take ownership of the company's AI strategy and technical direction. This is an opportunity to join early, shape the architecture from day one, and build production AI systems that have a genuine impact. This role is focused on agents, not prompts.

The successful candidate will:

• Own the company's AI strategy and technical direction.
• Design and build production-ready agentic AI systems for complex, multi-step workflows.
• Build beyond traditional RAG using tool calling, structured outputs, orchestration frameworks and multi-agent systems.
• Develop robust evaluation, testing and feedback frameworks.
• Deliver reliable AI systems with a focus on latency, scalability, observability, cost and resilience.
• Transform complex, manual workflows into deterministic and auditable AI-driven systems.
• Research, evaluate and implement state-of-the-art AI technologies where they create meaningful value.

What they're looking for:

• Strong Python backend engineering experience.
• Excellent knowledge of FastAPI, data structures and modern backend infrastructure.
• Proven experience building production LLM applications using complex agent-based architectures.
• Experience leading technical decisions around LLMs, SLMs and model fine-tuning.
• Strong understanding of evaluation frameworks, observability and production reliability.
• Solid machine learning and NLP fundamentals.

This is a genuine Start-up. This is not a corporate environment with predictable 9-5 hours and clearly defined responsibilities.
