Geotechnical Engineer, EMEA Pre-Construction

Amazon's Data Centers are industry-leading examples of innovation in security, safety, space utilization, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. We are the global team responsible for constructing Amazon-owned sites.

The EMEA Data Center Construction team seeks a Geotechnical Pre-Construction Manager with experience in geotechnical studies and assessments for industrial or commercial developments. This role involves joining the EMEA Pre-Construction team and playing an integral part in developing and implementing the EMEA AWS network. The successful candidate will provide geotechnical expertise relevant to new logistics facilities.

Responsibilities include reviewing Phase 1 geotechnical studies in early project stages, obtaining external expertise when needed, supporting site feasibility reviews, and working with the cost and design engineering teams to evaluate solutions and costs. The role also involves optimizing foundation and construction design in collaboration with external design teams and consultancies across Europe, establishing internal geotechnical expertise, and supporting tender and value engineering processes. You will serve as the primary liaison between Design Engineering, Construction, and other teams during planning, design, and development phases, providing guidance on cost, schedule, and constructability issues related to geotechnics.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Set up and review initial geotechnical site studies and feasibility reports.
  2. Support Design Engineering in liaising with European expertise providers.
  3. Conduct site visits to support construction phases for geotechnical issues.
  4. Prepare recommendation white papers and review reports.
  5. Organize project updates, details, and schedules in reports.
  6. Escalate issues such as delays, insufficient information, or budget concerns.
  7. Assist in budget evaluation for geotechnical components.
  8. Participate in design team meetings and workshops.
  9. Gather and document project specifics from site selection and transactions.
  10. Maintain a repository for pre-construction documents, ensuring proper uploads.

Daily activities involve ensuring project execution within time and budget, improving processes, communicating across departments, negotiating technical solutions, and acting as the primary escalation point for geotechnical feasibility issues.
