Overview

Financial Lines Underwriter – France – based in Barcelona. You will be employed by Tokio Marine Europe S.A. Sucursal en España, trading under the Tokio Marine HCC name. You will be part of a dynamic team focused on developing our regional portfolios. You will report directly to the Financial Lines Manager and carry out selection, analysis, and pricing of new and renewal policies, negotiate terms with brokers and insureds, and issue final contractual documentation. Your role supports and complies with the company’s objectives and standards, building profitable relationships with brokers and insureds.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data relating to large accounts: study financial, regional/national economic trends and industry conditions in the assigned underwriting discipline.
• Within the granted underwriting authority, follow internal underwriting guidelines and elaborate clear recommendations on terms, conditions, and pricing for the Financial Lines Manager or to a Referral Committee.
• Negotiate with brokers to secure business.
• Draft contract clauses in collaboration with the Product Development team and issue quotes and policy documents.
• Cultivate established broker relationships and represent the company at off‑site conferences, trade shows, seminars, and meetings.
• Keep files completed on time and ready for internal audits.
• Manage and grow the assigned book of business.
• Participate in special projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Economics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• 2–5 years proven underwriting experience in Financial Lines insurance or relevant insurance or financial analysis experience.
• Native French and fluent English (high level) required; other languages are a plus.
• Native/extensive knowledge of French culture.
• Ability to interpret financial statements, operational information, and risk indicators for both commercial and financial institutions to make sound risk‑based underwriting decisions.
• Knowledge of Financial Lines insurance products and wording; good understanding of relevant insurance market conditions and legal environment.
• Strong macro/micro economic knowledge and awareness of trends in different industry segments.
• Relevant network of contacts in domestic markets.
• Commercial acumen, strong negotiation skills, and good collaboration skills.
• Comfortable in an international environment.
• Willingness to travel.
