Role Overview

Our team is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager who will support Spain Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) team across all business lines, and lead one business line within Spain. This role is responsible for ensuring strategy and operational tactics are executed by providing technical support for existing operations and future expansion across multiple facilities within their region. The Environmental Compliance Manager will report to the Country Leader for Spain as part of the SEU and the EU EAP team, partnering with operations leadership teams to execute company environmental procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable country, state/province, region and local regulations.

Utilizing risk assessments and compliance evaluations, this individual will lead site‑specific continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts, communicating and implementing best practices. This role entails 50% travel across Spain.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute multi‑site responsibilities to comply with air emissions, stormwater, waste, wastewater and other environmental related laws, regulations and permits, including required country, state/province and local reporting.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business partners to support their success in environmental compliance, performance and sustainability initiatives.
  • Participate in the development, introduction, control, improvement and application of environmental management control systems, procedures, processes and products.
  • Measure and analyze sites’ performance against published environmental policies, identifying plans to address deficiencies.
  • Cooperate in contact with authorities and implement notification, permission and approval procedures according to environmental law (water/wastewater, pollution control, waste).
  • Participate in annual data collection and reporting (internal, external) and controls on environmentally relevant issues.
  • Manage environmental risk program(s) and/or projects, defining risks and shaping business solutions.
  • Serve as the environmental subject‑matter expert, staying current on industry trends, regulations and innovations.
  • Drive goal‑and‑regulation‑based control outcomes and risk reduction, establishing mechanisms to maintain risk within tolerance levels.
  • Manage overall schedules for environmental risk mitigation projects, overcoming issues and keeping scope under control.
A Day in the Life

Every day will be different. You will visit our Spain locations, engage with local teams, and ensure sites and the business are set up for effective environmental compliance. Collaboration with Legal, regulator engagement, and site training are part of the role. Flexibility is essential as priorities shift daily.

The Environmental Assurance and Protection team protects Amazon businesses and supports customer needs by proactively mitigating environmental regulatory risks and protecting the environment.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional auditing qualification or similar risk or compliance credentials.
  • Experience with SQL and Excel.
  • Experience in program requirements definition, leveraging data and metrics to drive improvements.
