Job summary

Dematic in Madrid, Spain, is seeking an experienced EMEA Mechanical Project Engineer to lead mechanical design and detailed layouts for intralogistics projects, ensuring safety and seamless integration with the sales layout.

The role requires a graduate engineer with 3–5 years in project engineering, strong English, and proficiency in AutoCAD, NX, Teamcenter, Navisworks, and SAP. Occasional travel up to 5% to customer sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Graduate engineer with Master’s or Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering.

• Strong mechanical design experience and ability to create detailed layouts.

• Create and approve mechanical layouts based on sales designs and customer requirements.
• Perform safety assessments and define necessary measures for project scope.
• Coordinate interfaces with steel construction, building and other trades.
• Develop BOMs and data lists, issue installation drawings and provide field support.

Responsibilities:

• Basic Engineering: Creation of the approval layout for the customer design freeze
• Safety assessment of the project scope (mechanics) and determination of the necessary measures.
• Creation of detailed concepts based on the sales layout and project requirements and integration into the approval layout
• Material flow review based on the sales layout and the products transported on the conveyor system.
• Clarification of interfaces with other trades such as steel construction, building, etc.
• Collision check
• Definition of access areas for service and maintenance of the system.
• Definition of escape and transport routes
• Definition of the required special designs.
• Ergonomic assessment of the workstations
• Preliminary mockup design of the workstations
• Measurement recording at the customer site (brownfield projects)
• Engineering support in customer meetings during this engineering phase
• Detail Engineering: Create detailed layouts
• Detailed definition of the conveyor technology (drives, conveyor speeds, roller and belt design, lateral guides, supports, suspension, etc.)
• Detailed planning of the required stepovers, maintenance platforms, etc. for maintenance and service.
• Detailed planning of the required safety devices.
• Create technical specifications for purchased components and coordinate the technical details with the supplier.
• Implement special designs
• Final mockup design of the workstations, including detailed technical and ergonomic coordination with the customer.
• Create bills of materials for ordering Dematic conveyor technology in our production.
• Generate purchase requisitions for purchased components in SAP
• Create data lists for hardware controls planning
• Create installation drawings
• Handover of all information to the installation team.
• Create a system risk assessment and conduct the safety inspection at the customer's site together with CE Compliance.
• Installation support remotely and directly at the customer's site
• Engineering support for supplier FAT

Requirements:

• Graduate engineer / Master's or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (a specialization in materials handling or intralogistics would be advantageous)
• 3-5 years of professional experience (we also welcome graduates)
• Expertise in project engineering (ideally in intralogistics or similar)
• Expertise in mechanical design (ideally in materials handling or similar)
• Good written and spoken English skills
