Technical University of Cartagena invites applications for a First Stage Researcher position in the field of Design and Development of DECT NR+ Communications for Agriculture, including Digital Twins and AI modules for optimization. The role is full-time at Felipe Hall Laboratory, with a 35-hour week and a gross annual salary of 26,071.36 euros.

The contract is indefinite, with a budget-dependent duration and a start date intended from 14/09/2026.

Formación

  • Academic background in Telecommunications Engineering or related field.
  • Specialization in Data and AI: Python, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science.
  • Experience with 3D digital models and IoT sensors/communications.
  • Languages: B2 or higher in English.
  • Other relevant qualifications related to the job profile may be considered.

Responsabilidades

  • Review and monitor state of the art on digital twins in agrivoltaic greenhouses.
  • Review XR technologies for digital twins in agrivoltaic greenhouses.
  • Monitor greenhouses via IoT networks.
  • Design and implement a configurable control panel for digital twins.
  • Evaluate the configurable digital twin in pilot greenhouse.
  • Design and implement extended reality representation for hydroponic greenhouse.
  • Evaluate the XR system in pilot greenhouse.
  • Develop AI module to improve crop/energy duality performance.
  • Test and validate the complete system and optimize greenhouse operations.
  • Disseminate results.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF CARTAGENA, A CALL FOR APPLICATIONS IS ANNOUNCED FOR THE HIRING OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL STAFF GROUP II TECHNICAL SUPPORT STAFF IN THE RESEARCH AREA OF DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF DECT NR+ COMMUNICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE. DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL TWINS AND AI MODULES FOR OPTIMIZATION (CODE: C-028/26).

Deadline for submission of applications: July 28.

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Indefinite.

PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY: GROUP II. University Graduate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION: Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Systems Engineering.

For degrees obtained abroad (including those from the EU), applicants must provide proof that they have obtained the corresponding recognition or, where applicable, the credential attesting to the equivalence of their degree.

WEEKLY DEDICATION: The position will be full time, and the workweek will be 35 hours, carried out from Monday to Friday, from 9h to 14h and from Monday to Thursday also from 16h to 18h30.

GROSS ANNUAL REMUNERATION: The employee will receive an annual gross salary of 26.071,36 euros.

PROJECT TITLE: Design and Development of DECT NR+ Communications for Agriculture. Development of Digital Twins and AI Modules for Optimization.

DURATION: The term of this contract will be contingent upon the availability of budgetary funds for the aforementioned line of research.

Current R&D&I activity:

“Feasibility Study for Mesh Wireless Networks Based on the DECT 2020 NR+ Standard,” reference 7840/23TIC, funded by OSTFALIA UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES. Budget line 30.05.18.B124 541A 643.10 (code: 2023/00218/001).

INTENDED DATE OF DEPUTY EMPLOYMENT: from 14/09/2026 on.

Tasks to be carried out:
  1. T1. Review and monitoring of the state of the art regarding advances in the parameterization of digital twins in non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic greenhouses.
  2. T2. Comprehensive review of the state of the art in extended reality technologies for the representation of digital twins in non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic greenhouses.
  3. T3. Monitoring of non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic greenhouses via IoT networks.
  4. T4. Design and implementation of a configurable control panel for digital twins in non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic greenhouses.
  5. T5. Evaluation of the configurable digital twin in the non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic pilot greenhouse.
  6. T6. Design and implementation of an extended reality representation of the digital twin for the hydroponic agrivoltaic greenhouse.
  7. T7. Evaluation of the extended reality system in the non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic pilot greenhouse.
  8. T8. Artificial Intelligence Module for Improving the Performance of the Crop/Energy Duality in the non-hydroponic/hydroponic agrivoltaic pilot greenhouse.
  9. T9. Testing and Validation of the Complete System. Optimization of Greenhouse Operations.
  10. T10. Dissemination of Results.

Merits to be assessed and evaluation criteria:
  • Academic Background (45%): the academic transcript corresponding to the degree required for admission to the position will be evaluated, as well as the university coursework for the Master’s in Telecommunications Engineering.
  • Specific Training (15%): - Specialization in Data and AI: courses in Python, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science - Development and optimization of 3D digital models, Design and Development of point clouds, Virtual Reality models - Support for project proposals.
  • Professional experience (10%): - Development of 3D digital models. - IoT Sensors and Communications, focused on environmental quality.
  • Languages (5%): B2 certificate or higher.
  • Other qualifications (5%): work experience related to the job profile will be considered.
