Salter Grange is recruiting a Design Manager for a data centre project in Barcelona. The role leads multidisciplinary design teams from inception to handover, with a focus on technical excellence, commercial awareness, and stakeholder management.

Based in Barcelona, the candidate will drive pre-construction activities, coordinate consultants across regions, and ensure designs meet client requirements, regulations, and sustainability goals.

Formación

• 5+ years of design management, engineering, or project delivery in construction.
• Experience on large-scale projects, preferably data centres or mission-critical facilities.
• Strong knowledge of European building regulations and standard practices.

Responsabilidades

• Lead and manage the design process from inception through construction and handover.
• Coordinate architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and specialist consultants.
• Develop design programmes aligned with project delivery schedules.
• Review designs for client requirements, specs, and European standards.
• Collaborate with PMs, commercial, procurement, and site ops to maintain design intent.
• Manage design risk, RFIs, and change processes.
• Ensure designs are cost-effective, buildable, and sustainable.
• Support value engineering while maintaining quality.

Design Manager Barcelona

Salter Grange is recruiting on behalf of a growing design and build contractor delivering a new data centre project in Barcelona.

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design teams from project inception through to construction and handover. This role requires a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders within fast-paced project environments. This role is currently in the pre-construction stage and needs a Spanish speaker to help drive it forward.

Design Manager Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process throughout all project phases, from concept through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and specialist consultants.
• Develop and manage design programmes aligned with overall project delivery schedules.
• Review design deliverables to ensure compliance with client requirements, project specifications, applicable European standards and local regulations.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, commercial teams, procurement and site operations to ensure design intent is maintained throughout construction.
• Manage design risk registers, technical queries, Requests for Information (RFIs) and design change processes.
• Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, sustainable, and fully buildable.
• Support value engineering initiatives while maintaining project quality and performance standards.

Design Manager Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in design management, engineering, or project delivery within the construction industry.
• Experience on large-scale projects, ideally within data centres, mission-critical, pharmaceutical or industrial sectors.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams across multiple countries or regions.
• Knowledge of European building regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
• Experience working within BIM environments, including Autodesk Revit and common data environments.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
