AESC Spain is expanding a €1‑billion gigafactory in Extremadura. We seek a Cost Engineer to own cost control, prepare estimates and budgets, and work with EPC contractors and the owner/end‑user to manage cost throughout the project life cycle.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in cost engineering on large construction or industrial projects, with strong Excel and cost‑modeling software skills, and fluency in Spanish (native) and English (upper‑intermediate). Based in Navalmoral de la Mata region.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Building Engineering, Engineering Cost/Quantity Surveying or related field.

Responsabilidades

• Prepare cost estimates, budgets and cost analyses for civil works and MEP systems.
• Define and review quantities, BoQs with engineering firms for tendering and cost control.
• Manage the full project cost control cycle: planning, monitoring, variance analysis and forecast.
• Prepare monthly cost reports and dashboards highlighting deviations and risks.
• Verify executed quantities and progress on site for certifications and payments.
• Assess cost and budget impact of scope changes, design mods and claims with economic basis.
• Identify economic risks, quantify exposure and propose contingencies.
• Analyse market prices for materials, labour and productivity using local benchmarks.
• Support tender processes with cost input: bid comparison and price analysis.
• Build and maintain the project cost database for benchmarking and close‑out.

AESC is a global leader in lithium‑ion and LFP battery technology, with a fast‑growing footprint across Japan, the UK, France, China, and the USA—now expanding in Spain with a €1‑billion gigafactory in Extremadura that will create up to 900 direct jobs in phase one. The Spanish facility is designed as the first net‑zero industrial park gigafactory in the country, aligning with AESC’s mission to pioneer sustainable battery manufacturing.

Role Purpose

The Cost Engineer will own the cost control of the construction of AESC’s battery gigafactory in Navalmoral de la Mata, acting on behalf of AESC as owner/end-user. The role will prepare and maintain project estimates and budgets, define and review quantities for civil works and MEP packages, monitor actual cost against budget and forecast, and assess the economic impact of changes and risks. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, the Global Infrastructure & Construction (GIC) team, Chinese project/engineering teams, EPC contractors and consultants, the position will provide management with accurate and timely cost information to support decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates, budgets and cost analyses for civil works and MEP systems, and review preliminary and official budgets and reference prices.
• Define and review quantities, measurements and Bills of Quantities (BoQ) with engineering firms and consultants, to be used for tendering and cost control.
• Manage the full project cost control cycle: cost planning, monitoring, variance analysis and forecasting (actual vs. budget, committed cost, forecast at completion).
• Prepare monthly cost reports and dashboards for management, highlighting deviations, trends and risks.
• Verify executed quantities and progress on site as the basis for certifications and payments to contractors and suppliers.
• Assess the cost and budget impact of scope changes, design modifications and claims, providing the technical‑economic basis to the Commercial Manager.
• Identify economic risks early, quantify exposure and propose the required contingency.
• Analyse market prices for materials, equipment, labour rates and productivity, using local benchmarks.
• Support tender processes with cost input: bid comparison, price analysis and consistency between budget, contracts and procurement.
• Build and maintain the project cost database for benchmarking, and support the final cost close‑out of the project.

Desired Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Building Engineering, Engineering Cost/Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• At least 6 years of experience in cost engineering, cost control, project controls or quantity surveying on construction, infrastructure or industrial/manufacturing projects.
• Proven experience on construction projects in Spain, with knowledge of the Spanish construction market and prices.
• Solid experience in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting and cost reporting for civil works and MEP.
• Experience measuring quantities, preparing BoQs and validating certifications.
• Experience working with EPC contractors on large‑scale projects; experience on the owner/end‑user side is highly valued.
• Ideally, experience in gigafactories, battery plants, data centres, pharma, chemical or other process facilities, and in fast‑track projects.
• Advanced Excel and cost management software (e.g., Presto, Arquímedes, CostX or similar); SAP knowledge. Power BI and AutoCAD are desirable.
• Language Skills: Spanish – native or proficiency (mandatory); English – upper-intermediate or above; Chinese – a plus.
• Based in Navalmoral de la Mata or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical and resolutive, able to work with multiple stakeholders in an international and multicultural environment.
