Merck Healthcare is seeking a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect and Senior Cloud Backend Engineer within our Engineering team in Healthcare R&D. You will design, build, and evolve secure, scalable cloud-native platforms on AWS, integrating with Azure Active Directory and supporting drug discovery and development.

You will own the cloud infrastructure roadmap, drive data archiving, and ensure robust deployments with minimal handholding, collaborating with teams in the US, Europe, and India.

Formación

• 10+ years of hands-on experience designing and delivering secure, scalable cloud-native systems on AWS.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and relational databases; experience with Scala/Java/C# is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, serverless design, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps).
• Experience with AWS security best practices, MFA, encryption, IAM.
• Fluent English and experience working with distributed cross-functional teams.
• Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate) and IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).

Your Role

At the intersection of cloud engineering and life-changing science, this role offers a rare opportunity to shape the technical foundation that powers drug discovery and development. As a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect and Senior Cloud Backend Engineer within the Engineering team in Healthcare R&D, you will serve as a recognized technical authority — designing, building, and evolving secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native platforms that directly accelerate research outcomes.

You will own and drive the technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure, lead the engineering of data archiving processes, implement new platform capabilities, and ensure robust, high-quality deployments. Operating with a high degree of independence, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across the US, Europe, and India — translating complex technical challenges into innovative, enterprise-grade solutions built primarily on AWS and integrated with Azure Active Directory.

Who You Are

• You hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or bring equivalent professional experience in cloud architecture and backend engineering.
• You have 10 or more years of hands‑on experience designing and delivering secure, scalable, cloud-native systems using AWS services at enterprise scale.
• You bring deep proficiency in Python, SQL, and relational databases, with additional experience in object-oriented languages such as Scala, Java, or C#.
• You have strong expertise in RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, serverless design patterns, and CI/CD pipeline development, preferably using Azure DevOps.
• You are well-versed in AWS security best practices, including multi-factor authentication, encryption, and identity and access management policies.
• You communicate fluently in English and are experienced working effectively across geographically distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS Fargate), infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK), or data platforms such as Snowflake is an advantage.
