The company is a European decision intelligence software vendor. Our platform — data fabric, semantic layer, active governance and governed AI products — lets regulated institutions and enterprises turn data into AI-driven decisions they can explain, defend and act on. It serves banking, insurance, public administration, retail, telecommunications, energy, utilities, healthcare and manufacturing customers across Spain, Latin America and Northern Europe. The company is headquartered in Madrid, backed by a leading European private equity investor, and growing fast in a market where European data sovereignty is becoming a buying criterion.
Role
The Chief Marketing Officer is the company’s marketing leader: a full-time executive reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Committee.
Reporting and Scope
- Full-time executive role. Reports to the CEO. Member of the Executive Committee.
- Owns: strategic marketing (market research, ICP and target client definition, segmentation, positioning); product and solution marketing; analyst and influencer relations; brand, content, digital and communications; partner and ecosystem marketing; marketing operations and the marketing budget.
- Does not own, and must serve: pipeline generation and the revenue number, which sit with the Chief Revenue Officer; customer events, upsell and retention, which sit with the Chief Customer Officer. Marketing supplies the positioning, messaging, content and assets both depend on, and is judged on whether they are adopted and whether they work.
- Works daily with the CRO (segments, target accounts, sales enablement), the CPTO (platform roadmap and solution definition) and the Chief Customer Officer (customer proof, references, installed-base content).
- Builds and leads the marketing team. Initial hires are expected in product marketing and in content/digital; the team is deliberately small and senior.
- Based in Madrid (city-centre headquarters), hybrid, with regular travel across our geographies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic marketing: markets, ICP and positioning
- Define and execute the global marketing strategy and the category narrative, working closely with the CEO, the CRO, the CPTO and the Chief Customer Officer.
- Own market research and market sizing: which markets, industries and geographies we play in, where the growth is, and where we deliberately do not play.
- Update the ideal customer profile and the named target client lists by industry and region, agreed with the CRO, and keep them current as the market moves.
- Lead the development of product positioning and messaging at company, industry and solution level, ensuring clarity, consistency and strong differentiation in the market. Translate the semantic layer, active governance and European data sovereignty into language that a CxO and a regulator each understand.
Product and solution marketing
- Own go-to-market strategies for product launches and for entry into new industries and geographies, including segmentation, pricing, packaging and sales enablement.
- Help define which commercial solutions the company builds on top of its technical platform: with the CPTO and the Chief Customer Officer, turn platform capability into a named solution portfolio with clear buyers, use cases, business cases and pricing logic.
- Own the solution narrative end to end: naming, packaging, value proposition, proof points and the launch calendar.
Sales enablement and the enterprise sales kit
- Oversee the creation of strategic content (white papers, case studies, pitch decks, demos, competitive battlecards and similar).
- Deliver the sales kit for 1:1 engagement with large enterprises: 30-second, 3-minute and 30-minute pitches by industry; 45-minute L1 presentations by industry; customer stories; competitive battle cards; sales cheat sheets; demo scripts and videos.
- Partner with Sales to drive enablement programmes with clear, value-based messaging. Measure adoption of assets in the field, not their production.
Market intelligence and analyst relations
- Conduct market, competitive and customer analysis — including a standing competitive intelligence capability on Tier-1 competitors and regional challengers — to provide insights that shape product and go-to-market strategy.
- Translate the platform and innovation roadmap into an external narrative that customers, prospects and analysts can buy into.
- Own analyst and influencer relations: run the briefing calendar with Gartner, Forrester and IDC, manage inquiry and evaluation cycles, and drive the company’s position in the assessments that matter.
- Build the company’s voice on European data sovereignty and regulation (EU AI Act, DORA, NIS2, GDPR) and make the C-suite visible in that debate.
Brand, digital and communications
- Own brand and corporate identity, the website as a working commercial asset, content, digital presence, PR and employer brand — delivered with a small internal team and selective external support, not through a standing agency dependency.
Partner and ecosystem marketing
- Own partner and ecosystem marketing: systems integrators, technology and cloud partners, and public-sector prime contractors. Build the partner-facing kit, joint propositions and co-marketing programmes that make the company easy to sell through a third party.
Team, budget and marketing operations
- Recruit, mentor and lead a small, senior team; be a player-coach who still writes the deck, edits the page and briefs the analyst personally.
- Own the marketing budget and marketing operations — CRM and marketing automation, attribution, dashboards — so that every euro spent is traceable to a commercial outcome.
- Drive internal adoption of the new positioning across sales, product and customer teams. Marketing only works here if the company changes with it.
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 days: market research, segmentation and ICP complete and agreed with the CRO; positioning and messaging house agreed with the CRO and CPTO; the five highest-value sales assets shipped.
- Six months: solution portfolio updated with the CPTO and Chief Customer Officer; full sales kit live and demonstrably used by the field; analyst briefing cycle under way; partner kit in the hands of our integrators.
- Twelve months: The company recognised in at least one major analyst evaluation; measurable awareness and inbound growth in priority markets; a marketing contribution to qualified opportunities that the CRO signs off on; core team hired.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in B2B technology marketing, including at least 4 years as CMO, VP Marketing or Head of Marketing owning the whole function within the tech sector (SaaS, Big Data, AI or enterprise B2B solutions preferred).
- Has scaled a B2B SaaS, data or AI company through the Series B-to-C-and-beyond phase, in an organisation of roughly 200 to 500 people, and taken it across the €10M to €50M+ ARR band.
- Deep strategic marketing craft: market research and sizing, ICP and target account definition, segmentation and positioning — done personally, not commissioned from a consultancy.
- Proven track record in go-to-market strategy for global technology products. Experience turning a technical platform into named, sellable solutions, and selling into regulated industries — banking, insurance and public administration — with long, committee-based and tender-driven cycles.
- Demonstrated analyst relations results: securing or materially improving a position in a Gartner Magic Quadrant, a Forrester Wave or an equivalent evaluation.
- Comfortable being measured on commercial outcomes agreed with the CRO, without owning the sales number.
- Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution skills.
- Full professional fluency in English and Spanish, written and spoken, with excellent communication and storytelling skills. French and/or another European language is a plus.
- Strong track record of working cross-functionally in international environments, ideally across Europe and Latin America.
Compensation, Location and Process
- Competitive base salary, plus a variable tied to company objectives and agreed marketing outcomes, plus equity-type participation in line with an executive hire at this stage.
- Madrid-based, hybrid, at the company’s city-centre headquarters. The Spanish special expatriate regime may apply to candidates moving to Spain.
The company is an equal opportunity employer. We select on merit and are committed to a balanced, diverse shortlist at every stage of this search.
