Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Backend Engineer on the Sail Services team to help build and evolve the systems powering Stripe's user interfaces. You will drive projects end-to-end, partnering with frontend, backend, and infrastructure engineers to deliver reliable APIs and backend services at scale.

You'll work on API design, GraphQL integrations, and migrations, using AI-assisted workflows to improve development, testing, and delivery while focusing on performance, observability, and operability across

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of backend technologies including APIs, data storage, and distributed systems.
• Ability to independently scope and deliver open-ended software projects with limited oversight.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with frontend engineers, product teams, and infrastructure partners.

Responsibilities

• Own software projects end-to-end from problem definition through production rollout.
• Design, build, and operate reliable, scalable APIs and backend systems powering Stripe's dashboards and interfaces.
• Help modernize UI architecture via migrations, validation, shadow traffic, and staged rollouts.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance, and operability on critical user paths.
• Collaborate with frontend, backend, and infrastructure engineers to turn recurring problems into reusable platform capabilities.
• Use AI-assisted workflows to improve implementation, testing, validation, and delivery.
• Contribute code reviews, discussions, and runbooks to raise quality.
