Job summary

LeoVegas Mobile Gaming Group is seeking a Backend Engineer to join our Gaming Team in Málaga, focusing on Java/Spring Boot microservices, cloud deployment, and scalable API design. You will develop and maintain microservices, integrate new gaming providers, collaborate with frontend teams, and ensure observability and performance across distributed systems to support 1.3 billion transactions per month.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend development with Java, Spring Boot and JPA/Hibernate.
• Hands-on experience building scalable RESTful microservices.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
• Experience implementing resilience patterns (retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation).
• Experience designing monitoring dashboards (metrics, logs, traces) and alerts.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our dynamic Gaming Team, comprising skilled Backend Engineers and QA experts dedicated to developing and maintaining our cutting-edge Gaming Engine.

As a Backend Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in utilising the latest technologies to craft cloud-based, distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant microservices capable of handling a staggering volume of gaming transactions—approximately 1.3 billion per month. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, including the Regulatory Reporting Team and game operations teams, you'll spearhead innovative projects such as LeoJackpot while ensuring seamless API integrations and optimising performance for an unparalleled gaming experience.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Developing and maintaining microservices using Java, Spring Boot and JPA

• Integrating new gaming providers into the platform via APIs

• Collaborating with frontend teams to expose game data via APIs

• Ensuring services are production-ready, observable and maintainable through monitoring and alerting

OUR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• 3+ years of backend development with Java, Spring (Boot) and JPA/Hibernate

• Hands-on experience building highly scalable RESTful microservices

• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL

• Experience implementing resilience patterns (e.g. retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation)

• Experience designing monitoring dashboards (metrics, logs, traces) and alerts to detect issues proactively

NICE TO HAVES

• Messaging and data: Kafka, Elasticsearch, Hazelcast

• Languages and frameworks: Kotlin, Node.js, Akka, GraphQL

• Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform, Consul

• Observability: Datadog

• Online gaming or gambling experience

• AI-assisted development (ideally with Claude Code)
