Malaga Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home

Ebury is a Global FinTech: we apply new technologies to enhance and automate financial services and processes. This allows small and medium-sized businesses to trade and transact internationally by eliminating boundaries related to more traditional.

We are looking for an Associate Engineer to help us automate operations and deliver reliable backend services. You'll write Python (and grow into Node.js/TypeScript), work with AWS, and keep our day-to-day platform running smoothly — pairing with senior engineers who are invested in your growth. You'll join an established ClientOps squad that automates internal operations and builds the common services helping Ebury scale internationally across FX, payments, and lending, in a strictly regulated environment. This is a hands-on, growth-oriented role: you take well-scoped tasks to completion, learn from senior peers, and build your foundations in distributed backend systems.

What you'll do
  • Deliver well-defined tasks within the squad's backend services, with guidance and code review from senior engineers.
  • Automate processes: write and maintain scripts and services that eliminate repetitive manual work.
  • Pair and learn: shadow senior engineers on the more complex orchestration and architecture work; build your distributed-systems foundations.
  • Engineering hygiene: write tests and clear documentation for your work; respond to code-review feedback and improve from it.
  • Participate in team routines: stand-ups, Kanban flow (we optimise cycle time over story points), and retros.
  • Grow toward L2/L3: progressively take on larger, less-defined work as your depth increases.
What you'll need
  • Foundational proficiency in Python (or a similar language) for scripting and building small services.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud environments (AWS or GCP) and how code repositories (like Git) work.
  • Degree in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience — we hire for aptitude and trajectory, not years (0–2 years, an internship, or a strong bootcamp/CS background).
  • Solid understanding of core programming, debugging, and testing principles, with eagerness to learn backend and distributed-systems concepts.
  • A growth mindset: you actively seek feedback, pair to learn, and take ownership of well-defined tasks — while knowing exactly when to raise your hand and ask for help. Working English for collaborating across our global hubs.
  • Based in (or relocating to) Málaga, and comfortable with 4 days/week on-site, being co-located with the team accelerates mentoring.
Nice to have
  • Exposure to orchestration/event tooling (Temporal, Kafka), Terraform, or CI/CD concepts.
  • Curiosity about production AI (LLMs such as Claude / Gemini) — you'll get exposure under senior guidance.
Why Ebury?
  • Competitive Starting Salary with an annual discretionary bonus that truly rewards your performance from day one.
  • Dedicated Mentorship: Learn directly from experienced managers who are invested in your success.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Leverage state-of-the-art tailor made tools and systems that enable you to perform at your best.
  • Clear, Accelerated Career Progression: Defined pathways to leadership and specialist roles within Ebury.
  • Dynamic & Supportive Culture: Work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and personal growth are prioritized.
  • Generous Benefits Package: Access competitive benefits tailored to your location, which typically include health care and social benefits.
  • Central Office: A fantastic location with excellent transport links.

At Ebury Bank we value diversity in all its forms and are committed to creating an inclusive environment. All of our vacancies are open and eligible for people with disabilities.
