Job summary

APM Terminals, part of Maersk, seeks a skilled Ignition/SCADA specialist to design and implement industrial IoT solutions across terminal environments.

You will work with Node-RED, ChirpStack, MQTT, OPC UA and LoRaWAN to capture real-time data, build reliable data flows, and ensure secure, scalable deployments.

Strong engineering background and hands-on PLC/IT experience, along with English communication, are essential in our multinational setting.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in technology and/or operations products, projects or programs, preferably automation/transport/logistics.
• Extensive SCADA experience with Ignition; strong SQL knowledge (queries and triggers).
• Hands-on exposure to real‑time industrial environments and IoT ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Ignition-based SCADA applications (Perspective, Tag Historian, Alarm Management, SQL connections).
• Integrate Node-RED and ChirpStack for real-time data capture and visualization.
• Develop data flows between IoT devices, SCADA systems and databases using MQTT, OPC UA and LoRaWAN.
• Translate product definitions into robust, scalable SCADA products with SME input when needed.
• Create design specs, configuration templates and deployment guidelines with version control.
• Test, debug and optimize SCADA/IoT apps; participate in UAT/SAT and support go-live.
• Support product standardization, QA activities and L2 support as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Ignition-based SCADA applications, with a focus on Perspective, Tag Historian, Alarm Management and SQL connections.
• Integrate COTS IoT platforms such as Node-RED and ChirpStack to capture, process and visualize real-time operational data.
• Develop reliable data flows between IoT devices, SCADA systems and databases using protocols and standards including MQTT, OPC UA and LoRaWAN.
• Translate product definitions and functional requirements into robust, scalable SCADA products, engaging subject matter experts when standard solutions are unavailable.
• Create and maintain design specifications, development references, configuration templates and deployment guidelines, using version control and company documentation tools.
• Test, debug and optimize SCADA and IoT applications, participate in UAT and SAT, validate outcomes, and provide support before and after go-live.
• Support global product standardization, security requirements, QA activities, Level 2 support and, when needed, software development projects or terminal project roles.

What We Are Looking For

• Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
• Bring at least five years of experience in technology and/or operations products, projects or programs, preferably involving automation and/or transport and logistics, with hands‑on exposure to real‑time industrial or operating environments.
• Demonstrate extensive SCADA experience, particularly with Ignition, together with strong SQL knowledge including SQL Bridge, queries and triggers.
• Ignition Core Certification is preferred or expected within six months of onboarding.
• Apply practical experience with COTS IoT platforms such as Node-RED or ChirpStack, and industrial or IoT protocols including MQTT, OPC UA and LoRaWAN.
• Use Python for advanced scripting within Ignition, supported by general PLC knowledge, basic Linux and networking skills, and knowledge of cybersecurity practices in industrial and IoT environments.
• Java scripting and custom development experience are a plus.
• Hold an engineering degree or similar, communicate effectively in English, and bring strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder and requirements management skills in multicultural and international team environments.
