Airbus UpNext Spain, based in Getafe, seeks an UAS Flight Autonomy System Engineer (M/F) to architect and uphold the MBSE-driven system and verification framework for the flight autonomy demonstrator. The role includes end‑to‑end traceability from concept to flight‑test evidence and cross‑team coordination.
You will lead the definition of system requirements, develop architectures with MATLAB System Composer, and shape the verification strategy across MIL/SIL/PIL/HIL and flight campaigns.
The UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) Flight Autonomy System Engineer (M/F) position is within Airbus UpNext Spain, based in Getafe, starting ASAP. It consists of a limited contract linked to the delivery of the flight autonomy demonstrator, with an estimated completion date at the end of December 2028.
Airbus UpNext is seeking a Flight Autonomy System Engineer to architect and uphold the systems engineering and verification framework for our flight autonomy demonstrator.
In this capacity, you will spearhead the definition and governance of system and functional requirements, ensuring their robust allocation to the architecture and maintaining rigorous end-to-end traceability from implementation through to final verification.
You will also be responsible for shaping and synchronizing the system‑level Verification and Validation strategy, spanning across simulation, laboratory benches, ground campaigns, and flight‑test operations.
If you enjoy weaving the digital thread of complex autonomy, obsessing over the traceability of every system requirement, and proving that your models don’t just work on screen but thrive in the chaos of flight‑test, this may be your boarding gate.
You will ensure our flight autonomy system is robustly defined, implemented, and verified. You’ll establish the end‑to‑end “digital thread” linking operational concepts, requirements, architecture, code, and flight‑test evidence.
Strong background in systems engineering, integration, or V&V within aerospace, UAS, avionics, or autonomous systems.
Deep familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink tools (System Composer, Simulink Requirements, Simulink Test/Coverage) or equivalents (DOORS, Polarion, Cameo).
Hands‑on experience with SIL/HIL environments and translating operational scenarios into ground/flight‑test procedures.
Understanding of embedded systems, interfaces (ROS2/DDS), scripting (MATLAB/Python), and safety/development standards (ARP4754A, DO‑178C).
A holistic “big‑picture” thinker who thrives in fast‑paced, agile environments. You value transparency, humility, and have a healthy impatience for driving progress.
Airbus UpNext empowers you to think and act like a startup, backed by the robust expertise of Airbus. In this role, you will embody our core DNA:
