Airbus UpNext S.L. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the physical and mechanical integration of the SparkHaven test facility in Getafe, on a fixed-term contract.

You will own the 3D mock-up, coordinate suppliers and drive mechanical alignment and assembly for a cutting-edge HV test bench. The role requires 5–10 years in mechanical design within aerospace, plus strong CATIA skills, fluency in English, and a pragmatic, hands-on mindset in an agile environment.

Formación

  • Minimum 5–10 years of mechanical design and structural integration experience in aerospace, automotive or industrial automation.
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Aerospace Engineering.
  • High CATIA proficiency for physical layout, cable tray piping routing and virtual mock‑ups.
  • Hands-on physical integration, alignment of equipment, piping hookups and heavy components.

Job Description: At Airbus UpNext , we fly future technologies at speeds well beyond what seems feasible today. We're looking for passionate individuals to join a new demonstrator project that is shaping the future of sustainable aviation by advancing the aircraft electrification roadmap. This project will focus on the challenges and opportunities of High Voltage Electrical Systems, which are essential for next-generation, low-emission aircraft part of Airbus ambition to electrify the skies.

As part of a fast-paced, agile team, you will help create a unique, state-of-the-art test facility from the ground up. Your mission will be to explore novel HV technologies at their limits and beyond, generating invaluable data and learnings needed to build the robust and reliable aircraft of tomorrow by safely testing the unsafe.

The Mechanical Design Engineer position is based in Getafe, and consists of a limited contract linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator (estimated completion date April - 2028), starting ASAP.

Mission

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, you will own the physical and mechanical integration layer of the SparkHaven test facility.

You will manage the complete 3D virtual mock-up, - test facility, test bench and R&T prototypes under test - drive supplier technical steering for mechanical structures and be the referent for on-site physical integration, mechanical alignment and structural commissioning.

Your Main Responsibilities
  • Virtual Mock-Up & Physical Layout: Define, update and maintain the 3D CATIA virtual mock-up of the full test facility and bench. Ensure spatial clearance, ergonomic accessibility, maintenance envelope validation and routing of piping, fluid lines and cable trays across the facility layout together with mechanical structural fixtures for Systems Under Test.
  • Supplier Technical Steering: Draft Purchaser Technical Specifications for mechanical structures, physical enclosures and mounting frames. Evaluate technical proposals, drive technical trade-offs and follow up and steer supplier milestones and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
  • Physical Bench Integration & Commissioning: Support physical assembly, fluid piping, mechanical alignment and structural installation on-site including heavy component handling.
  • Mechanical Safety & Operations: Support risk analysis for establishing all required documentation for human and operational safety related to the mechanical and physical perimeter. Contribute to the definition of operational procedures and maintenance routines safeguarding compliance with standards, norms and industrial regulations.

What you bring
  • Experience : Proven experience of 5 to 10 years in mechanical design, structural integration and physical bench assembly within aerospace, automotive or industrial automation sectors.
  • Education: Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering.
  • CAD & Layout Mastery: High proficiency in CATIA for physical layout, spatial integration, cable tray / piping routing and virtual mock-up management.
  • Physical Assembly: Demonstrated experience in hands‑on physical integration, alignment of industrial equipment, piping hook-ups and heavy mechanical component manipulation.
  • Supplier Management: Hands‑on track record in steering suppliers through manufacturing and acceptance phases. Purchaser Technical Specification drafting, vendor technical proposals evaluation and technical follow‑up.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Exposure: Background or prior hands‑on exposure to adjacent test bench areas - electrical wiring, power equipment, control automation, etc. - is considered a strong plus, though not a mandatory requirement.
  • Languages: English - fluency mandatory. Spanish is considered a plus.
  • Mindset: Pragmatic, flexible, hands‑on, autonomous and safety conscious with a desire to solve complex challenges in an agile, changing and fast‑paced environment. Willingness to have fun!
