The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a Research Engineer to maintain and enhance operational air quality forecasting systems. You will work within the Earth Sciences Department on MONARCH, CALIOPE, and related tools, collaborating with scientists to improve performance and reliability.

Applicants should have a strong background in meteorology, physics, or computer science, plus experience with UNIX/Linux, Python, and HPC workflows.

Formación

• Bachelor-level degree in a related science such as Meteorology, Physics, Computer Science or Mathematics; Master’s degree valued.
• Experience developing scientific applications on parallel computers and running in UNIX/LINUX environments.
• Proficiency in Python and scripting; familiarity with version control in collaborative settings (Git/SVN).
• Experience with HPC workflows, parallel programming concepts, and scientific software tools (Python NumPy/SciPy) is desirable.

Responsabilidades

• Implement, run, and monitor atmospheric models (MONARCH, WRF-ARW, CMAQ) in an HPC environment.
• Collaborate with Earth Sciences and Atmospheric Composition teams to improve system performance.
• Maintain and extend the current operational air quality forecasting pipelines and produce new features based on user needs.
